Outgoing Planned Parenthood Prez Exploits Hurricane Katrina in Final Email

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With a new Planned Parenthood president on the way, outgoing interim president Karen Pearl hasn't had much time to build a legacy as the head of the nation's largest abortion business. However, she will likely be remembered for exploiting the Hurricane Katrina tragedy to raise funds.
In an email to Planned Parenthood activists on Monday, Pearl said she was "delighted" that her last communication to the group's members discussed how local abortion centers have been reopened in the wake of the hurricane.
"All 40 clinics that were previously closed are now open, including our center in New Orleans that was closed for two months," Pearl exclaimed.

She touted how a number of Planned Parenthood facilities performed free abortions or distributed morning after pills, which can sometimes cause an abortion, at no cost.
Planned Parenthood came under fire for giving away the Plan B drugs just days after Katrina instead of providing food, shelter, or financial aid for the victims. The abortion business also sent out numerous appeals for financial support to rebuild their facilities.
Pearl's outgoing email touted those questionable efforts.
"Affiliates are also providing transportation to the closest Planned Parenthood clinic" and "vouchers for Planned Parenthood services through other aid agencies."
"Planned Parenthood has been working ... in the heavily impoverished Mississippi Gulf Coast area to increase access to [abortion]," Pearl added.
The abortion business also plans to open new abortion centers "in coastal communities previously not served by Planned Parenthood."

Last fall, on its national web site, Planned Parenthood solicited funds for Hurricane Katrina support efforts. In fine print, the abortion advocacy group explained that all of the money raised will be used to support its local abortion businesses.
Under a headline "Help Those Affected by the Hurricane," Planned Parenthood admitted that "100% of your tax-deductible contribution will go directly to helping Planned Parenthood affiliates."
"By exploiting the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina for its own financial gain over ... Planned Parenthood has shown that it is a calculating, callous organization undeserving of any public support," said Jim Sedlak, executive director of STOPP International, a group that monitors Planned Parenthood.
Sedlak added that Planned Parenthood has been the recipient of more than $3.6 billion in taxpayer funds since 1987 and has current assets in excess of half a billion dollars.

Breast Cancer Rates and Deaths to Increase, Women's Group Blames Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The number of women who have contracted breast cancer and are dying from the disease is on the rise and a women's group is blaming abortion for causing the problem.
Leading breast cancer awareness groups say they expect 5,170 more breast cancer cases and 560 more deaths than last year. In 2006, there are 274,900 expected cases of breast cancer and just under 41,000 women are expected to die from the disease this year.
One reason the numbers keep increasing is that such groups are failing to inform women that avoiding abortions and carrying a pregnancy to term can help reduce the risk of contracting the disease.
Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, blamed the government's National Cancer Institute (NCI) and breast cancer awareness groups for lying about the abortion-breast cancer link.
Harvard researchers showed two decades ago that increased childbearing, starting at an earlier age, decreases risk, Malec explained. Meanwhile research shows that having an abortion, especially as a teenager or before a woman carries her first pregnancy to term, increases the breast cancer risk.
"Women want to prevent cancer more than they want a cure," Malec said, encouraging the groups to focus more on the abortion connection.
"The NCI and cancer fundraising businesses (some of whose leaders once worked for Planned Parenthood or other abortion clinics) are more interested in protecting the abortion industry's interests than saving women's lives," she added.
Six medical groups recognize the abortion-breast cancer link, including the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute.
"The longer a woman is pregnant before an induced abortion, the higher her risk of breast cancer," the BCPI notes in a recent publication for women. "This risk is especially high for teenagers who have an abortion in the late 1st or 2nd trimester and for those women who have never have a child."
According to the institute, "Only 5-10% of all breast cancer cases are felt to be truly genetic and caused by a breast cancer gene" meaning other causes, like abortion, are responsible for the rest.
