Media Watchdogs by Victor Thorn

What are the primary objectives of any news media? The answer is twofold: first, they should, of course, disseminate the news; and secondly, they should serve as a watchdog for the citizenry to inform them of what’s taking place around them.Regrettably, the mainstream news media in this country has dismally failed on both counts, and they are at least partially to blame for America’s steady decline. It should also be noted that since a handful of New World Order multinational corporations have been buying-up these news outlets over the past three decades, the “news” (i.e. ‘conditioning’) that we’ve been receiving is merely a reflection of what THEY want us to know. As a matter of fact, five companies now control almost entirely what you see on TV: 1) General Electric (NBC)2) Disney (ABC)3) Viacom (CBS)4) News Corp (FOX)5) Time Warner (CNN)In addition, I can’t remember the exact person who said this, but the quote was from a high-ranking member of the corporate media, and they said, “It’s only news if WE tell you its news.” The arrogance of such a statement is apparent, and when coupled with the Bush administration’s trend toward only feeding “news” to select outlets that are favorable to them (Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Mike Gallagher, right-wing bloggers), it’s not difficult to see why our nation is in such trouble. So, the question right now is: should the alternative media emulate the mainstream media by only reporting information that is “favorable” to certain groups or persons; or, should we very diligently engage in one of our primary duties by being a WATCHDOG for the people? If you feel that only a positive spin should be placed on all news and information, then you’re essentially agreeing that the alternative media become a mirror-image of the corporate media by simply being a lapdog that gets patted on the head every once in awhile. But, if you do want patriot websites, radio shows, and TV outlets to be a watchdog, then sometimes there is a bitter pill to swallow because all of the information you receive isn’t going to be squeaky-clean and easily digested. In other words, you shouldn’t expect Sesame Street if you want the truth; and if reality is too much to handle, you can always turn to sniveling Company Men who robotically toe the party line and never step beyond the parameters of what is politically correct. Also, there remains a concept called “freedom of the press” where we can still engage in an open exchange of ideas. What should we do: abolish this notion whenever the heat gets turned up a little bit, or bury our heads in the sand? In case you didn’t realize it, that’s exactly what the NWO wants us to do. Myself, I’m adult enough to take the good with the bad because our media and the news it reports (just like life itself) isn’t always rosy and pristine. This is REAL LIFE; get used to it.
