Price Gouging & Hyper-inflation by Victor Thorn

Note: In the past twelve months, gasoline prices have skyrocketed 32%I got into a big argument last week about something most people probably aren’t thinking about right now – heating fuel. After all, considering that we’re in the middle of a global heat wave with record highs all across the country, who cares about how we’re going to heat our homes this winter? But the point of the discussion was: we should try to find alternatives to simply using heating fuel in our furnaces; whether its coal, wood, or any other possibility. Here’s the reason why I brought up this subject. Last July, heating oil was $1.98/gallon.

This July – only twelve months later – it’s $2.59/gallon. That’s a direct hyper-inflationary increase of approximately 25% - in one year (and that's prior to the latest price surge)! Now our play-actor President, George W. Bush, is prone to bragging about his “tax cuts” which, in reality, have very little effect on the average, everyday wage earner. What he fails to mention is that even though most people might save $50-100 on their federal income taxes, they’re now paying upwards of a $1000 extra in fuel costs for their cars and homes. That’s an INDIRECT TAX that no one ever seems to bring into the equation. Furthermore, those entities that received huge tax breaks - oil companies among them - are the same ones making record-breaking profits off of gouging us at the gas pumps. Funny how that works, huh?Anyway, the person I was debating kept coming up with reasons why we didn’t really need to investigate alternative sources of heat, including cost, time consumption, etc. Finally, this person said, “If you run all the numbers, the cost might be exactly the same whether you use heating oil, or an alternative source in addition to heating oil.”

That’s when I jumped in, “Yeah, but if we give even one penny less to the greedy oil companies, that’s one penny less those evil bastards get to stick in their pockets. It’s all a matter of principle. It’s the same reason why I’ll never again – until the day I die – step inside a Wal-Mart to go shopping. I don’t care if I have to drive further and pay more for a roll of toilet paper; at least I’m not contributing to Wal-Mart’s sickness.”And that’s what it all boils down to. Principles. The same with the alternative media and patriot movements. If we tolerate censorship, lies, con-jobs, sexual predators, sell-outs, gatekeepers, betrayers, and sensationalists; then where are our principles? More importantly, what differentiates us from the government and mainstream media if we don’t stand for anything? You know the old saying: If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.Makes sense to me.
