Pro-Abortion MoveOn to Challenge Pro-Life Democrats Voting No on Health Care

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The pro-abortion grassroots activist group MoveOn says it has raised millions of dollars to take on any pro-life or moderate Democrat who would vote against or hold up the health care reform bill. Pro-life groups oppose the bills because they currently contain massive government funding of abortions.
MoveOn informed its members in a Thursday email that it has raised well over $3 million to fund pro-abortion challenges to any Democrat who votes against the bills.
It says it has raised $3,578,117 to challenge "any Democratic senator who blocks an up-or-down vote on health care reform with a public option."

The emailed warned that any Democratic lawmaker who joins Republicans in to filibuster or vote against the pro-abortion health care bills will "face an enormous backlash from the grassroots."
The email also says MoveOn is joining Democracy for America, the activist group created by pro-abortion former Democratic Party chairman and presidential candidate Howard Dean, to call on Democrats in Congress to strip committee chairmanships from any Democrat who opposes the pro-abortion bill.
That could pose problems for Rep. Ike Skelton of Missouri, chairman of the Armed Services Committee and a long-time pro-life Democrat who has said he opposes the health care reform bill HR 3926 because of its abortion funding.

“I worry that the House bill does not clearly prevent federal funds from being used for abortion services,” Skelton said in a statement earlier this week. “As a pro-life member of Congress, I cannot support a reform bill that would allow taxpayers to fund abortions.”
Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, a Minnesota Democrat, previously announced he would oppose the bill -- also because he is pro-life and opposes the abortion funding in it.
Another Democratic committee chairman, pro-life Rep. Jim Oberstar, who heads the Transportation and Infrastructure committee, has been undecided on the bill. Oberstar fully backs the public option but is hoping for the Stupak amendment to stop abortion funding in it. The lack of it could cause him to vote no as well.The pro-life Democrats will face more pressure today as pro-abortion President Barack Obama heads to Capitol Hill to call on Democrats to back the bill.
