My brother-in-law is a postman. I sincerely doubt Burkman could carry out the duties of the average postman for a day. He'd crumble under the demands.

Hmmmm...I still use the post office. Whenever I go in I see plenty of older, Caucasian (I live in the suburbs) people in those long lines. Long lines also means plenty of customers who use those services. I also got my passport at the post office and I use the post office mailboxes. I'm not sure how snapping a picture of a Netflix DVD will magically transport it to it's destination. And privatizing national security? Are you kidding me?FedEx does not deliver postcards and small pieces of mail. FedEx does not issue passports. FedEx does not manage the many mailboxes that are spread throughout the neighborhoods. FedEx does not issue money orders. Not everyone uses the computer and cell phones for transacting business. How very elitist of them.

Of course there are more Post Offices than there are McDonalds. The postal service has to cover the entire country while McDonalds only has to place a restaurant in areas of high traffic. Plus I doubt that UPS and FedEx could handle the volume that the postal service has to put up with.

Postal Service is not funded on tax payer money. What a moron. They only Federal Agency that is self profiting. The only reason that fed ex and UPS have profit is because they do not deliver to rural areas that are not profitable. And the postal service opens jobs to veterans who have faught in wars and served our military. If he is saying they are a bunch of unskilled labor. Shame on that bastard. Post office has an office in every town. What a piece of s___. Another Corporate whore!

@cicreagan - First of all, D'Amato is a FORMER Republican Senator, having left office in '99 so he's not protecting anyone's socialist utopia as you seem to believe, and secondly he AGREED with Burkman regarding the need to considering privatization of the postal system, perhaps you weren't listening...what he disagreed with was Burkman's unnecessary commentary regarding "Nigerian" taxi drivers and postal workers...Burkman was being glib and he deservedly got slapped down
