9/11

Also, it is important to always remember the events of 9/11. I remember it just like it was yesterday. It was our generation's Pearl Harbor in which a group of murderers used planes as weapons to attack people (in New York City, in Pennsylvania, and in Virginia as the Pentagon is in Virginia). Almost 3,000 people died from the attacks. I was in college as a Freshman when it happened. I was 17 years old. I recalled leaving a math class, visiting a college library, and going home early since it was a Tuesday. Immediately, I saw the carnage on TV. People panicked, schools in many places of America closed early, and tons of people were in a state of shock. Air traffic was later cancelled nationwide. On TV, I saw on Tower fall to the ground. In America, people had a dazed look for days and weeks afterwards. It was a very traumatic, sad time. Also, the heroes of firefighters, other rescuers, and everyday citizens did their duties to save lives and to give comfort to those who suffered during that day. It was a time of the beginning of the 21st century.

It represented the paradox of us experiencing evil terrorism while some in the government using policies to advance Empire and a curtailing of our civil liberties (from the Patriot Act to NSA warrantless spying). So, the bad guys aren't just those who used planes as weapons. The bad guys also include those who used torture, those who enacted racial profiling, those who advanced imperialism, and those who spied on people without warrants too. 9/11 is eternally remembered by me. I think about 9/11 constantly. The lost of life makes us aware about the value of human life. Therefore, we are motivated to not only oppose and denounce terrorism (which we will always do with vigor and zeal), but to advance human understanding, tolerance, and justice. During this time, we work too. We work in figuring the complexities of life out, so our world can be better and our lives can be further enriched. We believe in democratic principles, because those principles are the hallmarks of a progressive society.

RIP to the victims of 9/11
Yes, we never forget.
We always remember.
