Wednesday News.

Many people are knowing more about the judge Brett Kavanaugh. He had a role in the Kenneth Star investigation that led to the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton. Yet, he supports power of the executive branch to escape many investigations in many circumstances. He was involved in the Bush v. Gore case, which caused Bush to be President when total votes show that Gore had more votes than Bush. The 2000 election causing Bush to be selected by the Electoral college existed as a result of voter fraud. Kavanaugh is very serious about his agenda. He may publicly talk about having an open mind in cases and adhering to judicial precedents, but he is a very far right jurist. Kavanaugh promotes the interests of the ruling class. There is no question that we live in new time. Many of the great rights that we fought for could be obliterated in a few years from voting rights to economic rights. He or Kavanaugh was born in Washington, D.C. and he was raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He also voted to support the South Carolina voter ID law (in disenfranchising black people, other people of color, students, elderly, the poor, etc.) that deprived a 90 year old black man from voting. Kavanaugh wrote that POTUS should have “absolute discretion” to determine whether and when to appoint or fire a special counsel and that a president should not be criminally indicted, no matter what evidence of wrongdoing is uncovered. Kavanaugh is also a threat to the health care rights of Americans. Therefore, we have to vote and continue to be active in our communities. Grassroots organizing and other activities are key in establishing real change. Activists are already out to protest Kavanaugh outside of the Supreme Court building. He has opposed net neutrality, voted for NSA surveillance, and has many anti-environmental views.

The old lie is that me, as a black person, shouldn't talk about the immigration issue since it only deals with non-black Latino human beings. The truth is that I will defend immigrant rights period because immigrant rights are part of human rights. Immigrants exist among every color and creed. That fact is what the white supremacists and Hoteps (who hate immigrants) omit. They or immigrants are worthy of equality and justice just like anyone else on this Earth. Some people are so xenophobic that they want no compassion sent to migrant families. Many of these xenophobes claim to hate injustice, but are silent when injustices harm asylum seekers. That's disgraceful. The truth is that immigrants include black men, black women, and black children. Black immigrants experience racism in dealing with DACA and the criminal justice system too. Also, African immigrants have greatly contributed to America culturally and financially. There are about 4.2 million black immigrants in America up from about 860,000 back in 1980. Trump is the person who referred to majority black nations overseas in vulgar terms. So, anyone supporting Trump is a person who is just plain wrong. Therefore, if a person doesn't respect black immigrants, then this person isn't for black liberation. Black and brown immigrants never deserve their families to be split apart at all. If a person hates immigrants of any color, this person hates humanity. It is what it is.That is why I will continue to speak out in favor of truth. As black people, this is our fight too. I commend Sister Patricia Okoumou for her heroism and activism.

It is always important to acknowledge musical legends. Yesterday was the Birthday of the legendary artist and civil rights leader Sister Mavis Staples. She is now 79 years old. For decades, she not only expressed inspirational, magnificent music. She has been at the forefront to defend the vitality of human expression and advocate stridently for justice for all. Her family are part of the famous Staples Singers. When you think about weddings, graduations, proms, and other celebrations, the songs from the Staples were shown in the past (at those various occurrences) and during the present too. She ws born in Chicago as Chicago is known of classic soul, R&B, and gospel legends like Curtis Mayfield. Her music epitomizes the strengths of gospel, R&B, and soul music. Her father was a friend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and she was part of the Staples Singers group before she established her solo career (her solo career had songs like Of Whom Shall I Be Afraid, Train, Interesting, etc.). "I'll Take You There" is another powerful song from the Staples Singers as well. Many of their music inspired the civil rights movement of the 1960's. They once signed with Stax Records. She has toured globally, appeared on many shows, and spoken on numerous topics relating to the existence of our lives. Yet, she still maintains her humble spirit in showing the world her transcendent gifts of kindness, excellent music, and a sense of purely gracious selflessness which further stirs up our souls. I wish Sister Mavis Staples more blessings.

A great actor personified Brother Richard Roundtree. He was in movies that were ahead of their times and he stood up to inspire future actors and actresses considerably in their respective roles. Days ago was his Birthday and he is 76 years old. He was born in New Rochelle, New York. He attended Southern Illinois when he was in college. His cultural icon status was firmly established when he was part of the Shaft trilogy series during the early 1970's. Shaft basically was about a black private eye detective who journeyed throughout New York City and in Africa fighting crime, living in new social taboos, and experiencing the complex life of urban realities. He was also in A Different World, Beverly Hills 90210, Roots, the new Shaft of the year 2000, and Being Mary Jane (starting in 2013). He has many children that he loves unconditionally. Also, one of the bravest actions of his life was that he admitted that he had a rare case of male breast cancer. In 1993, he underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. To this very day, he is a spokesperson for fighting breast cancer. He has been called the personification of cool. Cool is not just about your actions. It is about how your treat people. That is why it is cool to treat people with dignity and with respect. Richard Roundtree has always been an upstanding actor with outstanding talent. I wish Brother Richard Roundtree more blessings.

Candice Owens wants to debate Jemelle Hill. Hill has declined. They had a Twitter discussion and Jemelle Hill is right on race. Too many conservatives minimize the epidemic of systematic racism as an excuse to try to portray America as some near Utopia when that isn't the case at all Owens is wrong to assume that all people are against racism. Many people don't want racism to end since they see it as profitable to oppress black people and other groups of people. The police brutality, the criminal injustice system, and unjust harassment of black people for just selling water, etc. prove that racism is alive plus flourishing in the 21st century. Owens supports Donald Trump and ignores that Trump is a white supremacist by calling people slurs, slandering the Central Park Five, using vulgar language to describe majority black nations, etc. Many Republicans running for office now are overt Neo-Nazis and white supremacists. It is beyond Owens too. Many people on the far right don't like any black person showing unapologetic progressive pro-Blackness in public. White racists stay on code and one example of how mostly white racists supported Roy Moore in Alabama when Moore is a sick person. That is why we should never be naive. I don't bow to white racists. We need more black unity, more black institutions, and the goal is ultimately is black liberation.
