One of the most important news of our time, that came out on August 3, 2021, was the revelations of the independent investigation from New York Attorney Letitia James on the issue of NY Governor Andrew Cuomo. Attorney General James used 2 qualified investigators to find the truth. They were courageous, unbiased, and instrumental in seeking answers. Their conclusions are very emotional and outlines the necessity to eliminate sexual harassment from any sphere of the Universe. The investigation revealed that Cuomo harassed at least 11 women. Even Cuomo admitted that some of his conduct was wrong, but he still denies touching women inappropriately (when collaborative evidence contradicts his denials). The investigation said that Cuomo did overtly non consensual and unwelcome advances to women. Such actions violate state and federal law. One State Trooper was touched on her body inappropriately as this Trooper worked to protected the Governor of New York state. Cuomo is not just facing lawsuits, which will definitely come. He faces impeachment and possible criminal charges (if state police authorities charge him). Investigators Joon Kim and Anne Clark (who spoke to 179 individuals and reviewed 75,000 pieces of evidence in a comprehensive investigation) said that Cuomo fostered a culture of fear, intimidation, and harassment. The lesson is that tons of women and men are victims of sexual abuse and harassment, and these acts are always morally wrong. That is why we believe that integrity and ethics must always be adhered to in our lives 100 percent. Cuomo ought to resign.
The Delta virus is spreading across America. We know that Vermont has a low number of people with the virus with a high percentage of vaccination. Right now, more than 70 percent of all Americans (who are adults) have at least one vaccination. More than 60 percent of American adults are fully vaccinated. That is historical, monumental news. Many cities have created mask mandates. The federal government has already issued new, stricter mask mandates in many fields. Finally, some states like in Louisiana have an increased vaccination rates. Many companies require vaccinations for employees. Some states like Florida forbid mask mandates in public areas, even in schools. In Texas, universities could be fined if a teacher ask students to wear masks. This solution is will take a global approach in dealing with a worldwide problem. It requires all of humanity, regardless of nationality, to develop an environment where that virus is nonexistent. New York City will require proof of vaccination for indoor dining. We witness a new era in the response to the destructive virus (the virus doesn't discriminate. It's a harsh illness where many folks have ICUs or experience death as product of being infect). So, we should be knowledgeable of these subjects and advance real safety for our fellow neighbors.
There are tons of Olympic news in Early August of 2021. We know that Simone Biles won bronze in the balance beam competition involving gymnastics. This comes after Simone Biles admitted her mental health issues to the public. It certainly takes bravery to describe emotional issues that the whole world knows. Biles remains the greatest gymnast in human history. For the 200 meters women race, Jamaica's Elaine Thompson adds to her legend by having the 2nd fastest time in 200m history with 21.53. She won gold. Elaine Thompson adds to her legend as the second Jamaican to won back to back 200m races in the Olympics (the first was Veronica Campbell-Brown). Namibia's Christine Mboma won silver, and the American Gabby Thomas won bronze with a time of 21.87. That 200m race was one with many of the greatest talented 200m track women runners of all time. Gabby Thomas is a living legend. As for the 400m hurdles for women, Sydney McLaughlin won gold with a new world record. Her time is 51.46 second. Silver was given to Dalilah Muhammad with a time of 51.58 seconds. Muhammad survived the pandemic virus and injury. Bronze was given to Femke Bol with a time of 52.03 seconds. The race had American Anna Cockrell in it too. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have included some of the most talented athletes of all time indeed. Gwen Berry of America raised her fist in the air to defend free speech and promote solidarity with the oppressed.
Yesterday was the Birthday of Sister DJ Spinderella (Deidra Muriel Roper), and she is 51 years old. She has been disrespected and slandered by many, but her soul is still shining. She represents much of the contributors to Salt-n-Pepa. She was raised at Brooklyn, NYC. When she was a child, she loved her father's record collection. This love inspired her to be a prominent DJ. She worked as a local DJ by the time she reached high school. Hurby Azor helped Spinderella to be part of the hip hop group of Salt-n-Pepa. She was 16 in 1986 when she joined the legendary group. She toured the nation. She witnessed the group get many platinum and gold singles. Spinderella did hip hop too. She left the group in 2019. Then, she worked as a DJ and radio personality. To this day, she endorses DJ mentorships, fighting diabetes, and being part of charities. She loves her child, and she was in movies like Stay Tuned and Kazaam. Involving hip hop history and culture, Spinderella is a hip hop legend. I wish Sister Spinderella more blessings.
Some breaking, shocking news is that Dr. Runoko Rashidi recently passed away. Dr. Rashidi was a man who studied black history and culture for decades. Always in love of Africa, he wrote literature, gave lectures, and spoke his mind on the beauty of Blackness. Being a heroic black man who loved our black people, Dr. Rashidi advocated black liberation constantly. For more than 20 years, I heard of his work and read his literature. His Global African Presence website gave viewers an audacious, glorious insight into the diversity of the black African experience. His insights increased the power of African research in culture, and he was involved in growing the Pan-African unity movement in general. Nothing will be same. He was an icon of the ages. Dr. Rashidi was one of the greatest black scholars in world history.
