The Ottawa protest continues. When you study that event, you see it as another far-right occupation existing in Canada. Canada's Parliament and national capital have been under siege for over 12 days. Fascist activists, with firearms and other weapons, are there. They want to occupy downtown Ottawa until all public health measures to prevent the spread of the virus are abolished. The vast majority of Canadians oppose this occupation. This "Freedom Convoy" is another threat to democracy. The far right in America is funding these Convoy people. Now, they shut down the bridge to Detroit (or the Windsor bridge). Some of the supporters of the Convoy are far right provincial premiers who are Saskatchewan's Scott Moe and Alberta's Jason Kenney. The Conservative Party eject Erin O'Toole as their leader for not giving full complete support to the Ottawa occupation. Trump, Marjorie Taylor, Ted Cruz, and other extremists support the Convoy movement. The Ottawa police said that much of the occupiers are from America. The Politico mentioned that Freedom Convoy protests are planned in state capitals from Alabama to Wyoming with a plan to occupy Washington D.C. during the first half of March of 2022. This is not spontaneous activism. This is a coordinated far right attack on democracy.
The world knows the story of Amir Locke. Locke was a young man who was shot fatally by the police in a Minneapolis apartment. He experienced a no-knock warrant execution. The warrant didn't have his name on it either. His family is distraught. Locke was only 22 years old. His family said that he obtained a legal gun using the right, correct procedures. Body camera video shown the tragedy. Locke was sleeping when the officers entered the apartment. They yelled to him that they were the police and search warrant. Locke was wrapped in blankets. Locke tried to stand up and three gunshots came from the officers. This situation comes after many young people have been killed like Ahmaud Arbery, Daunte Wright, and George Floyd. Now, massive protests have existed in Minneapolis and all over America in general. The mayor of Minneapolis has issued a temporary moratorium on no knock warrants too. A no knock warrant resulted in the killing of Breonna Taylor. There should be an independent investigation as it relates to the death of Locke, and there should be accountability too.
The Joe Rogan controversy should be talked about. The common myth promoted by far-right extremists like Trump and others is that holding racists accountable for their words is equivalent to some authoritarian censorship. It is not. Real authoritarian censorship is how some far right people are banning anti-racism books in school libraries nationwide in America. There is no excuse for Rogan's views, and even Rogan said so. Therefore, the words that he said were part of racism. Him saying the n word, saying that the Planet of the Apes is similar to a black community, and other racist nonsense has been said by white racists for years. Some people like J Prince want to sugarcoat his words by saying that Rogan is not a racist. He's wrong. Rogan is a grown man almost 60 years old, and he knows what he said was racist. Also, I'm disappointed in India Arie for saying that his words were insensitive not racist. No, his words are completely racist. Other ethnic groups don't tolerate this mess and neither should we.
Days ago was the Birthday of Sister Dalilah Muhammad, and she is 32 years old. She is one of the greatest track and field athletes in our generation. She is great in the 400m hurdles. Her birthplace was in Jamaica Queens, NYC. When she was in high school, she competed in many track and field events like in the hurdles, sprints, and the high jump. This was at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, Queens. She won the 2008 New York State and Nike Outdoor Nationals titles in the 400m hurdles. Back in the 2007 World Youth Championships in Athletics, she took the 400m in hurdles gold medal. By 2007, she earned the 2007 Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year for New York state. She ran track at USC or the University of Southern California. Muhammad majored in business. She won the 2019 World Championships in Doha. She won Silver in the 2013 Moscow World Championships. She won gold in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro at the 400m hurdles and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in the 4 X 400 m relay. She won silver in the 2020 Olympics at the 400m hurdles. She won the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Award by the U.S.A. Track and Field Federation and by Track and Field News at its World Women's Athlete of the Year. I wish Sister Dalilah Muhammad more Blessings.
Days ago was the Birthday of the late Natalie Cole too. She lived for 65 years, and her life reflected a legendary career. For decades, she has been a singer, a songwriter, and an actress. Her father is the legendary singer and jazz pianist Nat King Cole. She made many hits during the 1970's like This Will Be, Inseparable, and Our Love. Everlasting was her 1987 album. Natalie Cole won over 30 million records worldwide. One of her famous albums was the album of Unforgettable with Love. The album had a song paying tribute to her father that I heard of before. She loved acting too. She hosted the TV show Big Break and the 2001 movie (starring as herself) in the movie Livin' For Love: The Natalie Cole Story. She won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special.
