The Historic 2025 Election.

The 2025 election was a huge victory for the Democratic Party. They had many victories in state and local elections. A high percentage of voters turned to the Democrats because they opposed Trumpism and sought solutions to economic issues, affordability, health care, and other important issues. We continue to experience a government shutdown, and many suffering Americans decided to vote for change. There were 190 elections in more than 30 states. My state of Virginia had tons of important elections. Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger won the gubernatorial race in Virginia. She is the first woman to be elected governor of Virginia. She defeated the Republican Winsome Earle-Sears, whom Trump didn't campaign for. The reason for that was Sears criticized Trump before and because for the obvious reason. I don't have to spell it out. We know that other reason. Sears used many tactics (in her commercials and speeches about cultural issues), but she failed in her election campaign. Sears gave a recorded message to Spanberger to wish her well. The victory for Spanberger was 56 to 44 percent. Many Virginians from the urban and suburban areas voted for Spanberger. Democratic State Senator Ghazala Hashmi defeated Republican John Reid to be the first Muslim lieutenant governor of Virginia. Jay Jones won the election to be the first elected black Attorney General of Virginia (in defeating Jason Miyares). Jay Jones overcame the text scandal that he apologized for. Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the gubernatorial race in New Jersey to defeat Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Sherill was a U.S. Navy veteran, and she won as Trump's popularity is at record lows. Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race in New York City because of widespread support from New York City residents, the housing affordability crisis, and other important factors. Mamdani used a grassroots campaign in order to achieve his victory. He defeated Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Silwa. He had a 41 percent victory, to Cuomo's 41 percent and Silwa's 7 percent. Over 2 million votes were cast, the most since 1969, and 17 percent of those who voted were first-time voters. Younger people from 18-44 came out to vote in high numbers. Mamdani represents the public's rebuke of Trumpism and the Democratic Party establishment, which publicly opposed his candidacy. Trump lied and called Mamdani a communist when Mamdani is a democratic socialist. Mamdani has to deal with the city council and the state government in Albany to try to get his proposals done. Yet, Mamdani is up for the challenge as he celebrated the diversity of New York City in his victory speech. Mary Sheffield is Detroit's new first black woman mayor of the city. Proposition 50 won in the state of California (in dealing with redistricting issues that will increase the Democratic representation in Congress in response to measures in Republican states), with Governor Gavin Newsom giving a speech calling it a signature moment and warning people that Trump will continue to promote illegal policies. Pennsylvania Democrats won their seats on their state Supreme Court. Maine voter restriction measures have lost in the ballot box. Krasner and Bragg win. Georgia Democrats flipped 2 statewide offices. Democrats, who are progressives and moderates, won clear victories on Tuesday. Democrats have controlled the majority in the Minnesota Senate and the Virginia legislature. The first black mayor of Albany, New York is Sister Dorcey Applyrs. Election Day 2025 showed the world that tons of Americans are willing to oppose the views of a tyrant by voting peacefully. Voting matters, and most Americans oppose arresting people without due process of law, oppose economic injustice, oppose unfair tariffs, and oppose injustice in general. We want health care for all, economic justice, affordable housing, equal rights, racial justice, the rights of women respected, the humanity of immigrants honored, black history supported, voting rights, and human liberty for all.

Recently, Dick Cheney passed away at the age of 84 years old. He was one of the most powerful Vice Presidents in American history. Also, he was part of the Nixon and Ford administrations. He represented the end of an era among Eisenhower center-right Republicans and the start of the war on terror era, as Cheney was a neo-conservative too. His legacy is always filled with controversy. Dick Cheney was a major architect of the modern-day 21st-century war on terror. Cheney supported the Patriot Act, indefinite detention, and other anti-civil liberty measures. He promoted the Iraq War based on the falsehood that Saddam Hussein had massive weapons of mass destruction. Iraq was no threat to America, and many people among both parties wrongly authorized the use of force against Iraq (which George W. Bush enthusiastically supported). The Iraq War started back in March 2003, when I was a sophomore in college. The Iraq War caused Iraq's infrastructure to be heavily destroyed and many Americans and Iraqis to die or be heavily injured brutally. Also, Cheney (with ties to Halliburton) promoted waterboarding and acts of torture, which were immoral. Many people in the corporate media are trying to canonize him, like Joe Scarborough and others. Cheney was right to oppose the January 6th insurrection and Trump's policies, but Cheney was very lucky not to be charged with international war crimes for his actions involving his reactionary foreign policy actions. His voting for Kamala Harris in 2024 is irrelevant when he has been complicit in the deaths of many people needlessly. Therefore, I will not mock his death, I will not use derogatory language against him (because I still believe in common decency and allowing a family to mourn the passing of a human being), but I won't sugarcoat his controversial legacy either.

An ICE agent being recording punching a restrained man in Evanston, Illinois, shows the fascism of many ICE agents. This comes when Trump said that ICE is not going far enough. Trump loves confrontation, and he revels in ICE acting criminally (by arresting U.S. citizens without due process of law) and immorally against human beings, including U.S. citizens. The tactics of ICE involving mass deportation go too far. Deporting people without due process is wicked and demonic. Some people are wicked enough to believe that if someone doesn't look like me, then they automatically deserve deportation without any recourse for a trial. Many communities have been harmed by the reactionary tactics of ICE. This evil has been done before. ICE has no right to raid hospitals, raid churches, and use chemicals in schools in trying to advance a xenophobic agenda. This is not how we treat our neighbors, and this is not how Jesus taught us to behave with other human beings of diverse colors, backgrounds, and ethnicities.

Trump has changed the EPA from a group fighting environmental pollution to a supporter of the interests of big business. The EPA was formed in 1970 by Richard Nixon. The EPA's actual duty is to protect human beings from environmental toxins and help the environment in general. Now, the EPA has been serving the profit interests of corporate polluters. Trump has fired many field workers and scientists. The leadership of the EPA has now been pro-Trump corporate agents. The EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) was closed in July 2025 to be replaced by the Office of Applied Science and Environmental Solutions (OASES), which has been filled with Trump-aligned administrators. New York Times environmental reporter Hiroko Tabuchi reported how the restaffing of the EPA with lobbyists who oppose anti-pollution measures. David Fotouchi is part of the EPA, and he is a lawyer to fight the banning of asbestos. Former petroleum industry lobbyist Alex Dominguez is the new deputy assistant administrator, and Lynn Dekleva opposed the regulation of formaldehyde, but she is the leader of the EPA chemical safety office. Steven Cook opposes the cleanup rules for forever chemicals, but he is part of the EPA. Trump's team is filled with anti-science propagandists, promotes policies that harm vulnerable communities, and wants a culture of fear in America. This attack on modern science is an antithesis to human progress.

The Supreme Court will decide if the Trump tariffs are legal or not. Trump justifies this policy by following the National Emergencies Act, but we face no national emergency or threat against the American people. Trump wants to place more tariffs against Canada because he didn't like an accurate ad showing Reagan opposing excessive tariffs. If the Supreme Court rules against Trump, there could be refunds to people or other measures. By Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in the Trump tariff case. About 61 percent of the American people oppose the Trump tariffs, because these tariffs increase prices of goods and services, causing international tensions, and forget about the interconnected nature of the global economy. Trump promoted wide-ranging global tariffs by April 2025. The Supreme Court will make its final rulings on the tariffs months later. This is a test of Trump's Presidential power, as Trump has expanded the executive branch of the government massively.
