Friday Late May 2025 News.

Elon Musk wants to leave the White House over the GOP budget bill. The paradox is that he wants to promote austerity, but his DOGE plan has ruined the lives of thousands of, possibly millions of Americans. Tons of Americans are unemployed and struggle to get a job, because his DOGE group fired innocent federal workers without just cause, cut social programs (that can help the poor and families), and he went out of his way to promote extremism. Cuts to foreign aid don't benefit America. Tax cuts for the super wealthy only help the one percent, not the majority of Americans. Massive cuts to foreign assistance expand terrorism and can cause many people to starve to death literally. This exists while Trump and Rubio are stone-cold silent. DOGE was never about government efficiency. It was about plans to benefit Musk's corporate interests in SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and X. Many people need to be reminded that Elon Musk raided people's personal data and targeted legitimate government agencies (like USAID, FEMA, air traffic controllers, Veterans Affairs, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau). Even GOP town halls are filled with angry constituents frustrated by the Trump administration's policies. Therefore, the early era of the Trump administration is finally over. We have less than four more years until that tyrant Trump is out of office.

Now, the judge has extended a ban on the Trump administration banning international students from going to Harvard. Harvard is located in New England in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is just plain common sense to allow human beings globally to come to American universities to gain diverse insights, views, and creative power to improve the quality of life in America. Academic freedom is paramount, and we need due process in society. You can't ban people from going to a university based on his or her's nationality. That is xenophobic and anti-American. The court said that the damage done by Trump is happening now. Many international students are being harassed now and plan on going to be educated in other places. An appeals court paused a ruling that blocked Trump's tariffs. The Supreme Court has already said that Trump must return an American resident from El Salvador to America. The commencement speaker at Harvard spoke out against the anti-immigrant policies of Trump. What makes America truly great is the human diversity found in our cities, towns, farms, and other places among humans of every background who love justice, truth, equality, and democratic freedom.

Many people are opposing the genocide at Gaza. Bernie Sanders is right to say that Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal for using policies of excessive attacks and starvation of the Palestinian people in Gaza for a long time now. This genocide is funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars. Trump has tried to jail people who use their free speech rights to support the Palestinian people. Now, many universities have either withheld or threatened to revoke graduating students' diplomas for using their commencement platforms to oppose the genocide in Gaza, which is anti-free speech. Ceceilia Culver at GWU and Logan Rozos at New York University were punished for speaking out against the atrocities taking place in Gaza. The awarding of Culver's and Rozos's degrees have been restricted by those universities. That is wrong. This is beyond political party as both major parties have members who defend capitalist exploitation, imperialism, and war mongering. We oppose genocide and believe in maintaining and strengthening our democratic freedoms. Likewise, it is important to note the many Jewish people and Arabic people who want peace in the Middle East. Israelis and Palestinians should live in peace, in equality, and in justice without terrorism and without occupation.

I agree with Nina Turner and others who said that the minimum wage should be the amount that if you work at that wage for 40 hours per week, you should be able to afford housing, healthcare, and groceries. Many of us are blessed to afford housing, have health care, and buy groceries weekly. Millions of Americans don't have that reality. Many struggle just to live in an apartment, and many people rely on SNAP or Medicaid for human survival. The Trump regime wants to radically cut SNAP and Medicaid. The DOGE movement has promoted radical austerity too. Some good news is that Trump has lost legal fights against top law firms, as law firms have the free speech right to disagree with Trump policies. Trump's economic agenda is more for the rich and less for everyone else. That is why private prison companies like CoreCivic and CEO Group donated to Trump's inauguration, and the Republican bill earmarks a large $45 billion for immigration detention centers. Trump is so xenophobic that he ordered the State Department to halt scheduling of new student visa appointments, which attacks higher education (along with Trump ending federal funding for Harvard).

There has been an increase in threats against judges since Trump has been in office during his 2nd term. One third of all federal judges have faced threats this year. This is intolerable. The judiciary branch should be an independent branch without intimidation and without threats. Many judges now have had their homes doxed. Judges' decisions can be disagreed with, but judges have the legal right to make specific decisions on cases without threats. Today, Trump has defied the Supreme Court's rulings, and MAGA cultists have been strongly sending threats to judges. Judges should experience dignity and respect. Now, we have some judges forced to have security. We have to speak up for the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution in general. We can agree to disagree on many issues without being violently disagreeable. This reality is real in 2025, and we have the right to use our voice to make sure that judges are safe to make concrete decisions on many of the most important political issues of our generation.
