Russell Simmons Defends Gwyneth Paltrow’s Use of the N Word

This is the link.

Please tell me she didn't say "The song is the reason she goes to Paris". Did she forget when both her and Oprah were blocked from going into a Hermes store in Paris by a racist sales manager who lied about the store being closed for a private party. The President of Hermes even came on Oprah to apologize because she was so hurt. Does Gale think "N____ in Paris helps our image abroad?

Please post the video as soon as you can. I don't WANT to go IN on Gayle King. I gotta hear her say this mess. Spike Lee & Gayle King have surprised me being so in love with that song. The main folks....chile.

Then you have all these articles using The Dream's comment of:

"They did that song to prove black men actually are in Paris blah blah blah wah wah wah". Stop acting like you are the first black person to go to Paris and have fun. Are the lyrics even about that???

I'm keeping a running list of the caping K____ who are defending this woman. Make sure my coins don't go to them.

I think a socially forward person (regardless of ethnicity) would reference the song as "In Paris," then write some spiel about being BFFLs with Jay Z in their tweet. I said it before, i don't understand why anyone would want exclusive rights to a word with such a hateful history.

All I'm going to say is that there's a lot of Uncle Tomming, too many comfortable people, and the conspiracist in me thinks there's a slight agenda to truly transform and transistion the word into a mainstream euphemism. Funnily, blacks ALWAYS co-sign s___ that is obviously detrimental to our future. Always. Just tap dances into the flames.

I hate Uncle Tom m______. I get called pro black by family members in a joking manner (like that's a bad thing ), lawd I swear...let me stop.

Ch...SPEAK ON IT!! Josephine was one the most successful, if not the most successul, entertainer in Paris at one point!!

UNEDUCATED FOOLS!

How ironic Beyonce
did a tribute to Josephine during her Crazy In Love days.

Thank you. I'm black and I call the song "Paris", especially in the presence of non-blacks. Like "hey, I don't say that word either."

People have been letting Jay-Z slide with his dumb shit for years. I've heard him in no less than two interviews saying that hip hop has done more for race relations than the civil rights movement. Once was on the Angie Martinez show around Black Album time, and another time, years later. I have serious issues with this man.

I think a lot of blacks are afraid of coming off as too militant or too pro black, which is stupid because those traits are what got us this far. They're too busy trying to pacify non-blacks because they're annoyed when we demand something f___ up is changed. How can you cater to people who show annoyance because in the year 2011 southern blacks in a historically fucked up southern town demand such and such sign gets officially removed (for example)? It's like blacks don't want to rock the boats, meanwhile other non-white communities raise hell any and every time. I guess some blacks felt we reached our quota with the Civil Rights and Black Power movements.  And they don't want to start any more "drama" for awhile. F___ That. I get tired of seeing that shit. Blacks will sit around and purposefully talk s____ about their own people to get a few chuckles out of their little clique, a clique in which they serve as the token minority.

Dr. Watkins, you have just perfectly expressed why the mass marketing of the n-word is so disturbing. Russell Simmons, JayZ and West are doing incalculable damage to our community. Their so called music is not art.  African American men are the only men in the world who have internalized their oppression to this extent. They are negatively influencing how Black youth perceive themselves, and how the world views our people. This is an excellent article.
