News on March 1, 2023.

Today, I found out about tons of information about my family tree. My late 2nd cousin Lucille Upshur (1901-1980) married Thomas Leslie Palmer (1894-1963). Lucille Upshur is a descendant of Johnson Brickhouse (b. 1826). She married Thomas Leslie Palmer on June 4, 1925, in Northampton County, Virginia (on the Eastern Shore). They had 5 children whose names are: Norma Lucille Mitchell (1926-2004), Hazel Ann Palmer (1927-2022), Thomas Palmer Jr. (1930-2007), Louis Palmer (1931-2014), and Brenda Palmer (b. 1941). These children are my 3rd cousins. Norma Lucille Mitchell married the ex-boxer Harold Vernon Mitchell (1923-1998) in New Jersey in 1943. They had a child named Sharon Lucille Mitchell (1944-2002). Norma married a 2nd husband named Gilbert Edward Brown (1929-2014). My 4th cousin Sharon Lucille Mitchell was born on January 10, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1962. She went to Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church and later was affiliated with St. James A.M.E. Church. She went to Temple University. She married Theodore Evans in 1963 and lived in Pleasantville, New Jersey. They lived in New York City and raised their daughters of Leslie Evans-Lazarevic and Bonnie Evans. Sharon worked at RCA Records, the Federal Aviation Administration, and loved animals of many kinds. Sharon's granddaughter is Jasmine Martinez. Her great-grandchildren are Ilanna, Annali, and Alex Martinez.

My late distant cousin Thomas Upshur Palmer lived from May 22, 1930, to June 4, 2007. Her parents were the late Thomas and Lucille Palmer. He graduated from Atlantic City High School. Later, he married his high school sweetheart, the late Joan A. Plamer (nee Spence). They had four children whose names are: Thomas L. Palmer (Donna) of Accokeek, Maryland, Mark D. Palmer of Atlantic City, Michael L. Palmer of Bayonne, and Palmela D. Nathan of Atlantic City. He has 2 grandsons of David Little of Fairfax, Virginia, Jason Palmer (Dione) of Washington, D.C. His three granddaughters are Stacia Little of Absecon, Tamika Young (Dion) of Atlantic City, and Joan Smith (Okese) of Atlantic City. His last wife was Erica L. Palmer. Thomas Upshur Palmer had the nickname of "Cush." He was a retired Atlantic City Fire Captain, was in the Korean War (received a Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained there), was a retired Sergeant of the New Jersey Army National Guard, and worshipped God at the Saint James A.M.E. Church. He drove the church van too. He loved to farm, cook, and do art in his life. He even organized the Atlantic City High School Reunion with a committee. He traveled with his friends to the Caribbean and other locations.

There is more evidence found in the Dominion FOX lawsuit. This new legal filing has been about 200 pages about Ruper Murdoch words. Murdoch acknowledges that FOX hosts endorsed the false notion of the stolen 2020 election. The case will most likely go to trial. Many lied about Dominion. Dominion said that Rupert Murdoch provided political strategies with the Trump team. Rupert knew that no fraud occurred. Rupert said that when FOX announced that Arizona went for Biden, he acknowledged that fact. Many FOX hosts like Tucker Carlson knew of the election fraud lie, but he and others from FOX were afraid of losing ratings from their far-right viewers. This comes after Dominion Voting Systems has continued to promote its lawsuit against FOX News. Rupert Murdoch told Mitch McConnell to not support the election lies. Many parts of the Republican Party are taken over by MAGA extremists, racists, xenophobes, and other bigots who embrace disinformation and lies instead of truth.

Now, hundreds of newspapers have dropped the Dilbert comic strip after the racist tirade from its creator Scott Adams. Adams lied and called black Americans a hate group. He wants white people to get away from them period. He cited a biased conservative poll to suggest that black Americans are some hate group. This story is why we can't be naive about racism. We have the right to support our black community. When we do this, we are not hating other races of people. In fact, historically, many black people have got out of their way to show compassion and empathy to other ethnic groups. Therefore, when black people come together, it is about us showing our creativity, our strength, our power, our intellect, and our brilliant souls. The Washington Post, Gannett, and other newspapers have stopped the publication of the Dilbert comic strip. As black people, we have the right to stand against racism, racial stereotypes, and lies shown by Adams and others who don't have a clue about the real history and culture of black people.

The Supreme Court could decline 26 million student debt relief applications because most of the court members are far-right conservatives. President Joe Biden wants to forgive up to $20,000 in federal student loans. I always believe that Biden's plan is the right thing to do, but the courts will try to stop him over legal grounds. Some people are shocked that Justice Amy Coney Barrett may be a potential swing vote. The oral arguments were in two cases challenging the program. One is sent by a group of Republican-led states and the other was brought by 2 individuals who didn't qualify for the full benefits of the forgiveness program. Justice Sonia Sotomayor said that millions of people with college debt don't have friends or families or other people to help them make these payments. More than $1.6 trillion of student loan debt exists in America alone. Almost a quarter of debt is owed by people aged 50 and older. That is not right. Debt forgiveness can help tons of black graduates. We shall see what the Supreme Court will do later this year in 2023. One thing is true we must be earnest and vigilant to defend the truth.
