In my sister state of North Carolina, just south of my state of Virginia, we see how Republicans are using a new redistricting scheme. Many Republicans know that they don't have a majority of support to advance all of their MAGA agenda, so they desire to use a redistricting plan to suppress the votes of black people, brown people, and other minorities. A real solution is an independent redistricting commission, but since the Republicans want arbitrary changes to the maps unfairly, many Democrats have no choice but to develop their own redistricting efforts, as found in California. Many activists are planning to sue the GOP in North Carolina to fight the redistricting plan. This plan has nothing to do with overt democracy. It has everything to do with vengeance, pettiness, and suppressing the vote of human beings.
Many NBA leaders have been indicted in gambling and poker schemes. This comes a day after the official start of the new NBA season for 2025-2026. NBA star Terry Rozier has been indicted, along with Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups. Billups and others are accused of scamming people out of money by running rigged private poker games in certain places. For generations now, legal and illegal gambling have been popular in the sports and cultural atmosphere. These are very serious charges. Former NBA player Damon Jones has been charged among the 34 people who were totally indicted. The individuals involved in the indictment include FBI Director Kash Patel, U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr., and others. This federal investigation dealt with 11 states. The government accuses members of the Bonanno, Genovese, Gambino, and Luchese Mafia crime families of being involved in illegal gambling. Billups and Rozier have been placed on immediate leave from their teams after their arrests. Billups has been the coach of the Portland Trailblazers since 2021. The federal government accuses these people of fleecing victims out of tens of millions of dollars. One victim lost 1.8 million dollars. The money was then laundered by the Mafia crime family. People who refused to pay were threatened with violence. Terry Bozier, via his attorney, denies all allegations. We shall see what the truth is in the future.
Trump has embraced kleptocracy by getting 3 billion dollars from crypto, 940 million dollars from law firms, a $400 million from Qatar, $36 million from CBS, and millions from other people. This new government shutdown is unique. Now, we see tons of people going into food banks seeking foods, because they can't afford food. Tons of foods now are heavily expensive. Our government is not functioning now, because Trump has broken checks and balances, lied about his political opponents, and gone out of his way to weaponize politics to try to suppress even displays of black history under the guise of being "anti-DEI." The reality is that DEI helps our diversity in American society. People have to stand for principles, as moving to the center does nothing to solve problems. We don't need to believe that the era of big government is over. We need vibrant, progressive action to help people with their health care, to fight poverty, to make sure that big corporations have checks on their powers, and to ensure accountability for elected officials.
Many people are waking up to Trump's corruption. Trump wants $250 million from the DOJ for the DOJ investigations of him years ago. This is obviously nonsensical and hyperbolic from Donald Trump. We realize that the No King rallies on October 18, 2025, are the biggest political protests in American history, when over 7 million people in all 50 states protested Trumpism. People want to strengthen health, no appeasement to Russia, stop exploiting the National Guard for political reasons, release the Epstein files, and defend democracy and justice for all. Despite the negative words of the No Kings rally from GOP members like Mike Scalise, Emmer, Harrigan, and Bessent, the No Kings rallies want America to improve and be at its best. We witness the MAGA movement fracturing with even Joe Rogan and Marjorie Taylor Greene disagreeing with some of Trump's policies (though Rogan and Greene shouldn't be glorified as paragons of virtue. They are still far-right extremists). Hegseth's plan to muzzle the Pentagon media has caused news organizations to not go along with this planned censorship, being anti-press and anti-free speech.
Early voting is available in Virginia, and I decided to vote early in Virginia on October 23, 2025. We have a massive amount of voter suppression and other unjust policies in America. Our ancestors fought and died to have the right to vote in American society. Not to mention that the Supreme Court could massively harm the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The Voting Rights Act is having its 60-year anniversary. We have the massive energy to stand up for our democracy. That is why I went into a library and voted for many candidates of Virginia, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, etc. I know about the many issues of American society, so I voted according to my conscience. I voted for health care for all, I voted for voting rights, I voted for cancer research, I voted for a strong social safety net including economic justice, I voted for improvements to our environment, I voted for investments in education, I voted for black liberation, I voted for respect to immigrant rights, and I voted for liberty and justice for all. Therefore, voting is a very important human right, which is why many people try to suppress it with attempts to decrease or eliminate early voting, banning the giving of water to voters in a voting line in one state, and stripping names found in the voter rolls. I vote for my people, my community, and for the truth indeed.
