I voted yesterday in Virginia. I voted on a proposed referendum that will allow a temporary measure to have redistricting based on the current legislature layout and return back to the bipartisan commission's plan by 2030 (after the 2030 Census). The Virginians for Fair Elections group spent money on the YES Campaign. Mostly Republicans believe in voting NO, because they feel that the bipartisan commission was necessary enough to handle districting issues in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The referendum wants to temporarily bypass the state's redistricting commission to create a new map for the rest of the decade. It would return map making duties to the commission after the 2030 census. This comes after Trump called for partisan gerrymandering in Texas to secure the GOP victory in this fall's midterm elections. This is a complex issue. For the reasons of it being a temporary measure, for this referendum to represent the legislature composition now in Virginia, and for it being a part of a legal referendum proposal, I voted YES on the proposed referendum. At the end of the day, districts should reflect the voting outcomes of the people and the demographics of the people in a state fairly. My state of Virginia has a unique story being part of so many major components of American history from the Civil Rights Movement, being resilient, and being one epicenter of cultural excellence. Today, Virginia remains a very important subject of our current 2026 election cycle.
There are other news involving foreign policy. 40 nations have met in Paris to demand the permanent opening of the Strait of Hormuz and plan for postwar peacekeeping with leaders like Macron, Starmer, Meloni, Zelensky, and other people. Also, Iran recruiting child soldiers as young as 12 years old. That action is an overt war crime. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) desire to recruit these children which is sick and evil. Some good news is that there will be a 60-billion-dollar loan to the country of Ukraine. Domestically, the Trump FED chair pick refuses to answer the question about whether Trump lost the 2020 election. That shows that the FED chair pick disqualifies himself from being a FED Chair, because that is such an easy question. Biden won the 2020 election despite Trump's lies about that election. The pick denied that he would be a Trump puppet, but he seems to not disagree with Trump on any issue. The pick is named Kevin Warsh. Warsh claims to have an independent ideological thinking involving economic matters of the Federal Reserve policies. At the end of the day, the Federal Reserve should be independent to supervise and regulate banks, handle interest rates, and not follow Trump unconditionally.
Trump announced that he will extend the ceasefire with Iran. He said that the truce will be extended until Iran submits to his proposal to end the conflict permanently. The Iranian state media claims to show ships passing the Strait of Hormuz. We have many oil spills from the Iran War being visible from space. Many airlines are about to run out of jet fuel because of the Iran War. The Iranian war was not a just war, and it has ruined many parts of the American economy. It has gotten to the point when Tucker Carlson has apologized for being involved in allowing Trump to gain political power in the White House. Also, Iran's new supreme leader is nowhere to be seen. The Iranian regime has done massively wicked actions in murdering protesters, suppressing human rights, and enacting other policies that are authoritarian in nature. Yet, Trump executed a war of choice preemptively when Iran is not a direct threat to American shores. Trump didn't contact all of Congress, and this war has been massively increasing gas prices. The U.S. has seized an Iran bound ship from China in the Arabian sea. Trump has threatened to bomb Iran's power plants and bridges if a deal isn't reached. While this is going on, the White House has sent a delegation to present an ultimatum to Cuba under threat of military aggression.
There is a massive opportunity for the Democrats during the upcoming midterms in November 2026. Many Democrats want to look to the new generation as they should. Yet, we should not embrace the prejudice of ageism. It is important to respect the wisdom of the elders and the vigor from the youth. It is not an either/or proposition. We need people from across generations to focus on establishing solutions to help the American people collectively. Recently, Senator Jon Ossoff broke down the political corruption in America from Trump to others. It is deeper than Trump, because we have massive oligarchical interests who use corporate money and secret money to promote agendas and seek control over people. Citizens United is a Supreme Court decision that caused this corruption to expand massively by ending legitimate economic regulations on political funding. That is why we need to address housing affordability, economic inequality, voting rights, foreign policy, health care, education, civil rights, our civil liberties, corruption, and other important issues.
Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned as Labor Secretary. She will take a job in the private sector. She has been facing a probe form the Labor Department's inspector general over potential misconduct. She is the third Cabinet secretary during Trump's 2nd term who decided to leave the Trump administration. Many authorities have investigated Chavez-DeRemer over serious allegations. She had been accused of having an affair with a security staffer and that her husband sexually assaulted her employees. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said that the Labor Secretary has resigned today on April 20, 2026. United States Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling will serve as Acting Secretary of Labor, according to Cheung. Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi were gone from the administration too. Two women accused Chavez-DeRemer's husband of sexually assaulting them on the premises. Her husband was barred from the department's headquarters now. Her and her husband deny all of the allegations. Chavez-DeRemer was a far-right extremist who wanted to eliminate the Women's Bureau, fire the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and had other scandals.
