News in Our World in February 2024.

The Supreme Court is now having a hearing about the eligibility of Trump for the ballot in Colorado. Nine Justices have heard the first arguments. Section Three of the 14th Amendment is being used by many people to try to make Trump not eligible to be on the ballot. Many Justices have skepticism over the argument that Trump should be gone off the ballot during a Presidential election. The Supreme Court may act soon or later. This will be a tough situation as the Supreme Court might reject the claim of Trump not being eligible. Protesters were at the Supreme Court in desiring Trump to have his name not on Presidential ballots. There is strong evidence of Trump trying to ruin American democracy. The issue is that most of the Supreme Court is heavily conservative and will likely keep Donald Trump on the ballot. Many Justices questioned many people about the case.

Tucker Carlson interviewing Vladimir Putin is not shocking. Carlson, like Putin is a far right extremist who minimizes the truth about the Ukrainian war. The truth is that Putin is a dictator who limits free speech in Russia, jails Russian protesters in Russia unjustly, is involved in spying illegally, and executes a preemptive strike against Ukraine in an evil fashion. Putin and his forces have committed war crimes by bombing civilian targets including schools, daycare centers, and residential areas Vladimir Putin denies the existence of Ukraine and habitually lies on many issues. Carlson promoted the replacement theory racist view, supported Trump, and whitewashed the terrorist insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Trump is complicit in much corruption and was involved in a criminal plot in trying to steal the 2020 election. Putin is an ally of the dictator Orban of Hungary too. Carlson is a Biden critic when Bidenomics has created 353,000 jobs in January 2024 alone which is great news. Misinformation is part and parcel of the agenda of Putin, Carlson, and GOP MAGA deceivers indeed.

The Special counsel report of Biden's handling of classified documents was released. Special counsel Robert Hur has released his team's report on the investigation into the mishandling of Obama-era classified documents in two locations connected to President Joe Biden. The investigation found that Biden (when he was Vice President) willfully retained and disclosed classified military and national security information. Yet, he won't face charges. Hur noted that Biden cooperated with the investigation and returned the classified documents once they were discovered. This is different from the case involving the former President Donald Trump.

There are reports of Israel assaulting Rafah, where one million Gaza refugees are sheltering with nowhere to go. Rafah is the southernmost city in Gaza, near Egypt. There are strikes all over the area. The Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that he wants missions in Khan Younis and reach Rafah too. He claims that terror elements are in those regions. On Tuesday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) spokesperson Jens Laerke warned that the assault on Rafah could constitute a war crime. “Intensified hostilities in Rafah in this situation could lead to large-scale loss of civilian lives, and we must do everything possible within our power to avoid that,” he stated. “We, as the UN and member states of the UN, can bear witness,” Laerke said. “We can make clear what the law says: under international humanitarian law, indiscriminate bombing of densely populated areas may amount to war crimes.” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken came into Israel on Tuesday in trying to work out a deal. He met with Saudi leaders and other political leaders of the Middle East. Far right Israeli elements have support overt displacement and genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank.

The leaders of the U.S. government have supported Israeli policy in the region. The few exceptions are when Biden banned Israeli West Bank settlers from coming into America if they harmed innocent Palestinians in the West Bank and other issues. Half of Gaza’s population is in the city of Rafah. Palestinian human beings in Gaza lack food, water, and shelter. This situation is a total disaster. Over 35,000 Palestinians have died and over 1,000 Israelis have died too.  What Hamas has done to Jewish people in Israel is immoral and evil. Also, it is evil to what the Palestinians have experienced in their unjustified oppression also. The only solution to this destruction is a 100 percent ceasefire, a Palestinian state living side by side with Israel (with Israel being not filled with far-right extremist leadership too), the return of all Israeli hostages back to their homes, and total justice for all in the region.
