The Record Spread of Omicron.

Right now, the omicron variant has grown massively in American society and the world. In America, over one million Americans have been infected with COVID-19 in one day. That's one day, and that number is underreported. We have a record surge of the virus, especially among young children. The Texas Children's Hospital has a 4-fold increase in child COVID-19 hospitalizations. Almost 100 percent of the new cases of the virus revolve around the Omicron variant. India had a weekend curfew. More than 10 percent of all U.S. children or nearly 7.9 million kids have tested positive over the course of the pandemic. Despite strict lockdowns in the Netherlands, coronavirus cases have increased in that country. This is the start of year three of the pandemic. The myth is that herd immunity will solve this problem or it's just like the flu when studies proves that COVID-19 is much more intense than the flu. Many lives have been saved by vaccinations, masks, and other public health measures. Yet, we are in the midst of a record surge in the States still. While Apple is worth more than 1 trillion dollars, we have massive poverty in the world. Imperialism, lax public health measures, a breakdown of democracy (when far right extremists have passed tons of voter suppression laws restricting who can vote and who can count plus regulate the votes), and other evils have led into a record, legitimate class struggle for changes in our world. Now, we know what we are up against.

Rep. Adam Schiff said that the January 6 committee is asking Sean Hannity to cooperate over text messages. The committee work is increasing its work to find out who spoke with Trump and why Trump had a lax response to the terrorism found at the U.S. Capitol. FOX News is well known to support Donald Trump in their coverage from commentary shows to even regular news anchors. Mitch McConnell and others begged Trump to end the violence at the U.S. Capitol. Yet, Trump refused to do anything to stop it until hours later. Trump also had close ties to Mark Meadows. So far, we know that Mark Meadows tried to convince officials in Georgia to flip the state to Trump. Yet, Georgia voted for Biden during the 2020 election. Meadows believed in the myth of massive voting fraud of the election. Meadows is one nexus point on the conspiracy to overthrow democracy. We should not sugarcoat what we are facing. We are facing huge threats to our democracy from voting issues, from the rights of minorities being suppressed, and from continued massive economic inequality. When you have anti-racism books experiencing attempts to be banned in public schools and even in public libraries, then we have a serious problem on our hands.

Senator Chuck Schumer wants to eliminate the filibuster. We know the story behind the real history of the filibuster. The filibuster was used to suppress the voting rights and human rights of black Americans. Many people want to end McConnell's obstruction in one vote. This is part of the long fight for our democracy. This time are important times in our history. The only way that the stalemate politically in Congress being gone is for the filibuster to be conclusively addressed. We shall see what the future holds. Hundreds of voter suppression laws are Jim Crow like laws that seek to destroy democracy. That is why we are clear that the government has the right to provide general welfare to the people. That is means that we desire the government to take care to the environment, to help the poor, to advance justice for black people including other minorities, to promote health care for all people without exception, and to seek to show compassion to the elderly.

Now, the new mayor of New York City is Eric Adams. He took the oath of office on January 1, 2022, just after midnight. Like many trends, many people desire the status quo and center-right policies instead of human liberation. Therefore, Mayor Eric Adams is the highest elected official in NYC. He pledged that the school system will be open. This comes after an unprecedented wave of the COVID-19 virus, increased by the Omicron variant. In New York City, there have been almost 40,000 cases in a single day. Eric Adams called the police on an assault while he was mayor, and he overseen a NYPD taskforce to arrest gang members (as crime is a serious problem in NYC and in other places of America). He was a former Brooklyn borough president, and he is the 2nd African American mayor of New York City (the first black mayor was Mayor Dinkins). Adams is known to promote touch on crime policies, he ran as a moderate, and he promotes charter schools. He wants to bring back the plainclothes anti-crime unit. This was the same group known for abuse of young black men like Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, and Eric Garner. Eric Adams is wrong to promote solitary confinement in jail which is a form of torture and human abuse. We don't know what the future holds, but one thing is clear. We saw see what Mayor Eric Adams will do for years to come.

Days ago, it was the Birthday of Sister Bianca Knight, and she is 33 years old. She was born in Pearl, Mississippi. She attended Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, Mississippi winning the female Gatorade Athlete of the Year in track and field by 2006. She was the first Mississippi native to win such an award. As a University of Texas freshman, she won the 2008 indoor NCAA 200m championship in a collegiate record time of 22.40. She won many awards later on. She won the 4 X 100m relay in 2011 at Daegu. She also won the 4 X 100 m relay in London during the 2012 Summer Olympics (with her teammates of Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, and Carmelita) with their world record. She competes professionally for Adidas. I wish Sister Bianca Knight more blessings.
