What is Happening in America and the World.

A lot of historical events have taken place recently. Recently, there has been a major prison swap involving America and Russia. There are many people sent back to America, including four U.S. residents. It took a long time for this event to happen, but the families of the innocent people jailed in Russia are celebrating massively. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan were among two dozen detainees that were released on Thursday. This switch was the biggest prisoner exchange between Russia and the West since the Cold War. President Joe Biden gave a speech to praise the release while realizing many more innocent Americans still must be released from Russian jails. The released Americans include the Russian American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva. These human beings came to Turkey. Later, they came to the United States to meet with their families and friends. There were massive negotiations to make sure that this happened. Nations from Turkey, Germany, and other countries. Once again, diplomacy works to create more solutions in global negotiations. Marc Fogel, an American, must be released still. Vice President Kamala Harris has been very active in helping secure the prisoner deal, involving two high-level meetings in Germany with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golab, according to a Biden senior administration official. Russian-born dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza was released too. Putin hugged the killer who was released. We all believe in democracy and freedom throughout the world. Vice President Kamala Harris said that she will fight to always allow all Americans to be released from Russian prisons.

The July 31, 2024, Olympic updates are very lengthy. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre congratulated Team USA. Canada's women's soccer team advanced with their 1-0 win over Colombia. The USA men's Basketball USA Team defeated South Sudan in a hard-fought game with a score of 103-86. America goes to 2-0 in group play and can play in the quarterfinals. Bam Adebayo led America with 18 points, Kevin Durant had 12 points, and LeBron James had 14 points. They will play Puerto Rico on Saturday. Chinese prodigy Pan Zhanle won the 100m freestyle in a world record. He is 19 years old with a time of 46.40 seconds. Katie Ledecky won gold in the 1500m freestyle final in swimming at Nanterre, France. She tied for the most gold and overall medals won by an American woman swimmer at the Olympics. France's Leon Marchand won gold in the 200m breaststroke for men. Brazil's soccer team advances. The U.S. women's water polo team defeated Italy with a score of 10-3.

On August 1, 2024, tons of Olympic events took place. Simone Biles has won gold in the all-around final. She is the first American gymnast to ever win the event twice. Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast in human history. Andrade of Brazil has silver, and Sumi Lee has bronze from America. It was a tough battle, and Simone Biles made history once again. Biles thanked her coaches, Cecile and Laurent Landi plus her therapist. She is also one of the greatest athletes in history being 27 years old and winning her first gold medal when she was 19 at Rio (in 2016). American women took silver in the 4 X 200m freestyle swimming relay. The relay team consisted of Ledecky, Claire Weinstein, Paige Maden, and Erin Gemmell. Katie Ledecky of America now has her 13th medal. Australia had gold and China took bronze. The American basketball women's team defeated Belgium (with a score of 87-74) being undefeated. A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart lead the USA women's basketball team in scoring. The women's team fencing event won gold for the first time at the 2024 Paris Games. The team includes Lee Kiefer, Lauren Scruggs, Jackie Dubrovich, and Maia Weintraub. This is Scruggs's second medal ever and Kiefer has more career-fencing Olympic gold medals than any U.S. athlete. The Italian team has silver. The American Kate Douglass had her first career gold by winning the 200m breaststroke, upsetting South Africa's Tatjana Smith. Tes Schouten of the Netherlands had bronze. Hungary's Hubert Kos won gold in the 200m backstroke. Switzerland's Roman Mityuko took bronze, and silver was given to Apostolos Christou of Greece. Canada's Summer McIntosh won 200m butterfly, American Regan Smith had silver, and China's Zhang Yufei took bronze.

There was the National Association of Black Journalists convention where black journalists asked Donald Trump any questions. He was asked questions by moderator Rachel Scott of ABC News. Trump made hyperbole, lies, and desperation. Trump said that he would pardon the January 6th terrorists. Nearly 875 people pleaded guilty to federal charges related to January 6th, including 275 to felonies, according to the Justice Department. Trump wanted to compare the insurrection at D.C.'s U.S. Capitol to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. There is no comparison. The BLM protests wanted racial justice and an end to police brutality. The insurrectionists wanted the illegal overthrow of the U.S. government to cause a fascist to maintain power. The vast majority of the BLM protesters were peaceful people, but the insurrectionists used racial slurs, waved Confederate and Neo-Nazi flags, and destroyed tons of areas inside the U.S. Capitol. Trump said that immigrants are stealing black American jobs which is a divide-and-conquer strategy. The truth is that black American unemployment is at record lows, and black American economic issues are not caused by immigrants collectively but by the policies of the 1 percent. Trump said that he would step down if his health was declining. Trump made the racist comment that Kamala Harris "turned black" when Kamala Harris acknowledged her Blackness and her Indian heritage too. Kamala Harris called herself African American in the 2006 State of the Black Union. Trump denies being racist, but he said that Jewish Democratic people are not loyal to America, that Kamala turned black, and that a Mexican American judge can't judge an immigration case fairly because of his Mexican heritage. The United Auto Workers endorsed Harris for President.

There should be more commentaries about the Trump interview with black journalists. Rachel Scott and the other black journalists acted professionally and asked Trump legitimate questions, but Trump called the journalists mean. The journalists were never mean and gave him every opportunity to give his take on issues, but his mind was so much filled with racism and sexism that he did what we expected him to do. The NABJ asked him a question about HBCUs, but Trump forgot that the veto-proof bill of HBCU funding that he signed represented about 7 percent of all HBCU federal funding. Trump is a habitual liar by denying being racist, but he said that Native Americans don't look like "Indians." Trump arrogantly defends the police as having total immunity when Sonya Massey was an innocent black woman murdered by a police officer. Kamala Harris held the first-ever White House meeting of men of color entrepreneurs last year helping many black people. Trump in the NABJ meeting shows everyone that Trump is a racist (who promoted the Birther lie against Barack Obama and still believes that the Central Park Five are guilty when they are innocent people), a liar, and a racist.
