In our lives, we must defend the right to protest, the right of free speech, and the right of the people to be free from unjust occupation. People in Minneapolis and nationwide desire an end to the excessive actions of ICE. The habitual lying of the Trump administration is overt and outrageous. There is no need for Alex Pretti and Renee Good to be killed when alternatives can be enacted to make sure that both human beings would be alive today. More people have expressed outrage over the situation of DHS/ICE occupation of our American cities. Many brave people have protested and made their voices known. As people know, the Trump regime doesn't even desire an independent investigation of ICE killings done by the state and local government. They have called ICE agents completely innocent without any adjudication. The Trump team desire any ICE agent to have total legal immunity to carte blanche do anything that they desire with massive aggression. Over 100,000 people have protested across Minnesota against the actions of ICE in recent days. Alex acted bravery to help a woman, and he lost his life. Trump, Vance, Miller, Noem, Bovino, and Kash Patel are complicit in this crisis. Yes, the Second Amendment should be protected among American citizens regardless of what Patel says.
It is important to respect and honor unsung legends and icons involving athletics. One human being was Alice Coachman. She was a black woman of the South who made lifelong contributions to humanity. Albany, Georgia, was her birthplace and the place where she passed away, too. She helped to break down barriers as the first black woman of any nation to win an Olympic gold medal in 1948 (in the city of London). She opposed racism and discrimination throughout her life. Back then, she had to pick cotton, supply corn to local mills, and pick plums plus pecans to sell them. She did this to provide for her family when she was a teenager. She has been blessed with great athleticism. She loved to run track and field races and the long jump. She gave human beings inspiration.
She said to people that, "when the going gets tough and you feel like throwing your hands in the air, listen to that voice that tell you ‘Keep going. Hang in there.’...Guts and determination will pull you through.” She loved to teach people about track and field. In fact, she formed the Alice Coachman Track and Field Foundation to help support younger athletes and provide assistance to retired Olympic veterans. By the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, she was honored as one of the 100 greatest Olympians in history. She was later inducted into nine different halls of fame, including the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1975 and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004. Her peers during the 1940s were Joe Louis, Don Barksdale, Kenny Washington, Jackie Robinson, Tidye Pickett, Louise Stokes, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Ora Washington, Matilda and Margaret Peters, etc. Alice Coachman paved the way for many athletes now, including Simone Biles, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Masai Russell, and Tara Davis-Woodhall, and other icons.
We should express outrage about how this regime allowed masked, unidentified agents to harass Americans, to abuse Americans, and to murder Americans without just cause. There must be independent investigations of these tragedies. Likewise, we warned people that this tyrant would justify these evils if they voted for him. As black people, we know about tyranny firsthand. Our ancestors and our people today suffer racism, discrimination, scapegoating, and other injustices every day. Some positive news is that people across the political spectrum, people of every color and background, etc., have opposed the ICE/DHS occupation and oppression of American citizenry. This is not news. Our black ancestors were displaced of their lands and were victims of pogroms in the 1800s and 1900s. Thousands of Japanese Americans were forcibly placed into internment camps by a racist government. The actions of ICE and the DHS have nothing to do with public safety. It has to do with intimidation, lies, xenophobia, racism, authoritarianism, and seeking to bash true democratic rights. According to one judge, ICE violated dozens of court orders. Regardless of what anyone says, we have the right to protest, we have the right to use our free speech rights, and we have the right to stand up for the human dignity of our neighbors.
MAGA, Hoteps, and many manosphere extremists are united in their hatred of immigration. The truth is that immigrants have benefited society by contributing to economic and cultural growth. Immigrants have been demonized as criminals who want to take our jobs. The truth is that crime is way down in America. Some cities have record lows in violent crime, but we have millions of immigrants living in America now. The crime rate is down because we have used interventions, we have invested in youth job training programs, we have used other programs that address crime and poverty. Immigrants (regardless of status) are 60% less likely to be incarcerated than U.S. born citizens. Border cities are among America's safest cities. Xenophobes said that immigrants hard the U.S. economy, want free stuff, and harm the job market. The major reason immigrants come to America to have a better life. More immigrants as workers and consumers will grow America's economy by $7 trillion and reduce the deficit with a $1 trillion revenue. Many immigrants pay tons of taxes too. Even undocumented immigrants pay taxes and aren't allowed to have most federal government benefits. Xenophobes claim immigrants will take our jobs, but that isn't the case. Many immigrants will help pay for Social Security and give Americans a more youthful population.
