This week is the 60th year anniversary of Bloody Sunday of the overall Selma voting rights movement. Back then, the Civil Rights Act was already passed in 1964. Yet, federal protections for voting rights didn't exist, so the Selma movement was developed by the end of 1964. Groups like the SCLC, SNCC, the Dallas County Voting League, and other organizations worked together in Selma to promote black freedom and human rights for all people. Bloody Sunday started on March 7, 1965, when about 525 to 600 civil rights leaders marched southeast out of Selma on U.S. Highway 80. The march was led by SNCC leader John Lewis, Reverend Hosea Williams of SCLC, Bob Mants of SNCC, and Albert Turner of SCLC. The wicked county sheriff, Jim Clark issued an order for all white men over 21 to be deputized. Officer John Cloud was there near the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Hosea Williams wanted to talk to Cloud, and Cloud said there is nothing to talk about. Immediately, troops began shoving and beating on the peaceful demonstrators with nightsticks and some rode on horseback. These cowardly, crooked officers harmed men, women, and children with a brutal and sadistic mentality.
Another group of troopers used tear gas on the people. The televised images were shown worldwide and shocked human beings. These horrific images of bleeding and severely injured African Americans caused people of all colors to express legitimate anger and outrage at such an evil action. This increased support for the Selma Voting Rights movement. Amelia Boynton, one of the leaders of the Selma movement, was beaten unconscious by thuggish cops. A 14-year-old girl Lynda Blackmon Lowery was brutally beaten by a police officer during the march. John Lewis had his skull fractured. Many victims of the police brutality during Bloody Sunday ran to homes and churches to survive the onslaught. President Lyndon Baines Johnson condemned the brutality against the demonstrations and wanted a federal Voting Rights bill to be passed by Congress. SNCC had a sit in in Washington, D.C. The Selma march was successful, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was part of the movement too. In 1965 in Selma was the peak of the old school Civil Rights Movement (1954-1968). After Selma, we saw the Watts Rebellion, the extra rebellions of the late 1960s, the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and other events. The Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. It is a great, powerful form of progressive legislation. Yet, the irony is that the Supreme Court has restricted parts of the Voting Rights Act unjustly since 1965. Many states restrict voting rights, even banning giving citizens water in a line (which is evil).
In the past 20 years alone, many states have stripped citizens' names off voting rolls, limited the times when people can vote, and tried to restrict mail in voting services. Our ancestors shed blood, so we can vote. I will vote by my own volition, because voting can change policies in local, state, and federal levels. If voting didn't matter, why do the powers that be (or the elites) work constantly to limit the right to vote? That refutes the myth that voting can't change a thing when civil rights heroes voted and fought to make real change in society. We live during the era of Trump's 2nd term when Trump wants to annex the Panama Canal, Greenland, and Canada. Trump has made it clear that he wants to ban the concept of woke in society which will never happen as being woke has nothing to do with a reactionary political correctness. Being woke means to realize that all people are created equal and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without exceptions. We desire our democratic rights to be protected, and economic justice enacted. So, we have a long way to go to make sure that our voting rights are respected 100 percent. Yet, we are in the right side of history as God would want all people to have justice and Americans, have the right to vote without repugnant, discriminatory policies.
Trump using verbal abuse against the Canadian Prime Minister and Trump allying with Russia is more than treason. It is just plain evil. Trump's tariff's plan is so horrible, that he is now trying to have pauses on tariffs, because this plan is disgraceful. Tariffs now is not a great idea when our economies are so interconnected. The fired federal workers in Virginia and in other states are suffering immense pain by the firings from Trump and Elon Musk. These firings definitely harm veterans. This means that Trump has fired more veterans than any other President in American history. Trump wants to fire more than 80,000 veterans who work at the VA under his lying guise of "eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse." The resident of the White House has gone out of his way to insult veterans who disagree with his repugnant views. He has no respect for common decency, and many deceived people follow him unconditionally. He is no King. He is just a male. No man and human in general should be made above the law. Just law is superior to the rantings of a fascist.
Republican leaders defend words from House Republicans calling Rep. Espaillat an "illegal immigrant" is a racist lie. Many Republicans believe in the myth that they are the models of decorum. They are not. Trump has used profanity to describe his political opponents. Marjorie Taylor Greene has cursed out people who disagrees with her while claiming to be a Christian. The Republican Party has been disgraceful. While this is going on, Rick Scott and other Republicans want cuts to Medicare and Social Security. These are sick people who care more for ideological laissez faire capitalism than housing for people, Social Security, and protecting our environment. We have to fight for our rights. Al Green was censured by the House for just saying that Trump has no mandate for cutting Medicare. Green didn't use profanity or threatened anyone, but Republicans give GOP extremists a pass for calling people every name under the sun if they disagree with them. 10 Democrats voting to censure Rep. Al Green are wrong too. Those 10 Democrats don't know a thing about courage. Courage is standing up for a righteous cause, and they genuflect before a madman in the White House. We cannot respect the views of a fascist and honor the principles of free speech at the same time.
