General Alfred Von Schlieffen a KNIGHT OF MALTA?
I always believed he is a KNIGHT OF MALTA because of the dress he is wearing and note how the German Iron Cross is very Saturnalian and I would call the Schlieffen Plan 'ENGINEERED' as well to destroy France just because it tried to become a republic

The graphical difference between the two medals can be detected between the arms of the 8-pointed star, and the SMOM medal has a (Papal) crown above the star.
The semantical difference I think is the difference between the Protestant version of the Order of St John and the Catholic one which would be SMOM of course.
