Through two Jesuit priests, Francisco Ribera (1537-1591), of Salamanca Spain, and Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621), of Rome, the papacy put forth her "Futurist" interpretation. Commissioned by the Vatican, Ribera and Bellarmine concocted a bogus interpretation of prophecy in order to divert attention away from the Bible warnings regarding the Catholic Church. Astonishingly, most Protestants and non-denominational so-called "Christian" churches are now teaching this abominable Jesuit theology! Hence, the Reprobate Church!!
In 1590, Francisco Ribera published a commentary on the book of Revelation as a refutation of the prevailing Protestant view, which identified the papacy with the Antichrist and applied all but the earliest chapters of Revelation to the end of time, rather than to the well-documented history of the church. This new explanation was called "Futurism."
In the 1800s, a leader in the “Plymoth Brethren,” John Nelson Darby, began to embrace and refine the futuristic teachings of the Jesuit Francisco Ribera.
Darby's fame came about when Cyris Ingerson Scofield (1843-1921), a Kansas lawyer, published his Scofield Reference Bible, based largely on Darby's writings and his adapted Jesuit theology of Futurism found also in the writings of Todd, Maitland, Bellarmine and Ribera. Wycliff, Huss, Luther, Knox and Wesley all declared that the Papacy was the Antichrist! An American researcher has discovered a copy of Scottish lassie Margaret Macdonald's handwritten account, on 23 sheets of paper, of her "discovery" in 1830 that the Bible teaches a "pre-tribulation rapture."
A facsimile copy of her penned account was obtained from the British Library which has long catalogued it as "Margaret McDonald's Vision" - one of many items in an old collection of Irvingism memorabilia.
