This ridiculous act of political grandstanding by Arizona Republicans is a blatant attempt at censorship aimed at the states' educational institutions and will never survive a First Amendment challenge.

They called Hispanic studies 'high treason" leading to a southern from of racial discrimination. And here i thought thats what the bill was all about. Discrimination against the Hispanic Community by the Arizona Legislature. Arizona looks more like Selma, Alabama due to its politicians than the Hispanic Studies students.

Alienating Latinos is one of the DUMBEST moves the GOP could be doing...the fact is the party is rife with bigots who despise anyone who isn't pale like them. As Joy Behar rightly pointed out on The View these people and the lunatic Gov. of AZ are going down a very slippery slope...70 years ago a nation gave in to its racist/fascist tendencies because of hard economic times...the same is happening now, if we don't put it in check fast.

"State schools chief Tom Horne, who has pushed the measure for years, said a Tucson school district program promotes "ethnic chauvinism" and racial resentment toward whites while segregating students by race."It's just like the old South, and it's long past time that we prohibited it," Horne said."Strange analogy, given that public school in the "Old South" were forcibly segregated, while ethnic studies programs in Arizona public schools are elective and open to any student regardless of race or ethnicity. If Gov. Brewer and Superintendent Horne think these programs foster "resentment" of the white establishment, just wait for the fallout now that they've banned them. Do these officials really live in mortal fear of minority empowerment? (rhetorical question, that much is obvious) Because there's two ways to empower the disenfranchised - one is through education (inclusion), the other is through scapegoating (exclusion). Guess which one doesn't result in happier, more productive citizens?
