Real obscure and meaningless thing -- being allowed to eat at a restaurant. Kind of like the Valley Swim Club club in PA where they freaked out about letting Black & Hispanic kids swim there -- even though their memberships were paid for. The children are probably emotionally scarred for life because of being thrown out after being invited but then told not to return and the President of the club saying the reason they were tossed out was that children's presence would "change the complexion of the club." No racism there, nope none at all. No, Mr. Paul, these were little children and now they are scarred forever because of this. How horrible to condone stuff like this. I didn't agree too often with your father but at least he had brains in his skull, you sir, are ignorant in ways that are beyond my comprehension. I am sure you put a nail in your political coffin with this -- and I hope it stays nailed shut.

Ok people, here is something exceptionally simple that a lot of people a missingFreedom of speech is not freedom of actionYou can say all the hateful ignorant crap you like but you are not allowed to act upon it.A business owner can say anything he likes but once he takes an action such as not allowing a woman into his business just because its a woman, speech no longer applies.

No one took him out of context.He advocates the position that businesses should be able to discriminate on the basis of race.That is the very definition of racism.

He also think Medicare should be handled by charity. Wow! lunch counters can kick someone out if they are a minority and senior citizens should depend on charity for their well fare. He really is out of the dark ages, isn't he?

I don't believe that Rand is truly racist. But I do believe that he is truly and tragically naive.Libertarians think that society and supply/demand capitalism will solve all problems. For some reason they believe that it will work in the face of hundreds and years of evidence and history that it doesn't solve all problems.

So governmental and/or institutional racism is not okay, according to Dr. Paul, but somehow racism committed by private citizens is permissible.Doesn't he understand that racism in the private sector is what gave institutional racism its teeth, power, and danger? It was the private sector that animated and executed in horrific ways racial terrorism, Jim Crow, the denial of voting rights, and lynchings and beatings. And all too often, the private citizens who burned crosses in blacks' front yards, strung up black men for little to nothing, and demanded that blacks step off the road into the street for passing whites, were also the judges and juries in the courthouses, bosses in the nation's businesses, and the police officers on the beat. The world Paul presents simply does not exist and never has. There is no division between public and private when it comes to discrimination against certain kinds of people. The two work always in tandem, supporting and reinforcing the dominant viewpoint of an issue, either dooming certain people to ostracization and terror, or freeing them into citizenship.

...and there is the heart of the problem fro libertarians; they are unlectable because they are running precisely for what they are against. How can you run to run a government if you do not believe in government? So it is no surprise Paul Jr. wants it both ways. The philosophical arguments becomes more important than doing what's good for humanity. He as a person would not descriminate, but the government should not be telling others not to do so. So basically, there is no need for govenemnet to put controls or make things better and if that is the case then what is he running for? He just killed his chances.

no it isn't.Simple as that really, it's not an issue at all. You can go down the same senseless road as Paul does here, where he contradicts the historical reality by claiming it's only a philosphical distinction,..but it's no such thing. Legalized Discrimination is not a by-product of free speech, it's an effect caused by the unequal treatment of two or more persons with equal desires of access. To claim that you're stepping on one's person's freedom of expression while necessarily restricting another's freedom of choice is a hollow argument, and deceitful. I hope Mr. Paul gets squashed like the not-very-bright bug that he is by his opponent this November, and I will gladly send money to try and help that happen. You??

Arguing that certain citizens should be allowed to treat certain other citizens like second-class citizens is kind of despicable. It's no wonder that even a lot of Republicans are starting to think this Rand fellow is a horrible candidate.
