There is the rise of the far-right person Flavio Bolsonaro in Brazil. Flavio is the son of the convicted criminal former President Jair Bolsonaro (who is serving a 27-year prison sentence for lading the 2022-2023 coup conspiracy). Flavio finished first with 47.0 percent of the valid votes against 45.2 percent for the incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers Party (PT). Flavio received 56.1 million votes which was 2.25 million more than incumbent. This comes before the October 25 runoff election. This result was not confined to the presidential race. Bolsonaro's Liberal Party (PL) elected 121 federal deputies, up from 99 in 2022, the largest delegation won by any single party since the 1988 Constitution. In the Senate, it won 19 of the 54 seats in contention and will hold 28 of the 81 seats. That is more than a third of the chamber. The far right has won the first round of the governorships of most of the South and Southeast, the country's economic path.
Trump made the bizarre, evil comment that Iran could take out Los Angeles and San Diego. He does this because he is trying to justify the evil Iranian war that he started. Also, he wants to dehumanize the people of both cities when both cities are filled with human beings of cultural excellence, of grit, of resiliency, of spiritual strength, and of progressive values. It is plainly obviously that the MAGA movement is not a legitimate political movement sent to help humanity. It is a grotesque, obscene political cult that desires bigotry, racism, sexism, xenophobia, and voter suppression to be the order of the day. Trump is disgraceful and out of line to say such rhetoric. His rhetoric should be condemned by people from across the political spectrum. It is flabbergasting to witness how Trump can have any supporters of his policies, but we live in this reality. No American city is expendable and no American city should be destroyed. Los Angeles and San Diego represent a large portion of American culture, and we must always be aware to condemn Trump's views. Trump is the enemy of our democracy by promoting inflating growing tariffs, creating the illegal Iranian war, going about to promote suppression of mail-in voting, and he used slurs against COVID-19 including Mitch McConnell's wife. Trump represents the larger far right global movement which seeks to end democracy and promote the agenda of oligarchy and a new school technocratic monarchical system that suppresses the rights of the people, especially those who are progressives.
We should never support the ignorant, bigoted, and self-hating comments form Abraham Juste that are xenophobic against our black Diasporic brothers and sisters. We black Americans are a compassionate people, and many of us were legitimately outraged at Juste's nonsense. He should be boycotted. Yet, we should never go into the other extreme and show hatred of Africans and Afro-Caribbeans. They are part of our black family, and we African Americans will use Juste's nonsense as motivation to fight the good fight for justice. Two things can be true. Juste is wrong in his views, and the FBA movement has been filled with so much xenophobia, contradiction, and hypocrisy that I will never support the FBA or the ADOS movements at all. I am an African American who can trace my ancestry in America long before 1800. Therefore, we will make an example out of Juste by boycotting him. He should apologize to us black Americans, but I'm not expecting it. His friend, Brandon Brown, came forward to accuse Juste of more anti-black actions and anti-black attitudes. Anti-black sellouts like Juste make us aware that being pro-black is about what you do in favor of black liberation without apology.
Many faith leaders have marched against ICE detention. There has been a 96 mile interfaith pilgrimage against the Trump's immigration crackdown. The immigration policies of Trump are beyond mainstream discourse. It deals with cruelty, bigotry, xenophobia, and basically killings. We have ICE found on videotape killing human beings, both citizens and undocumented immigrants. We know that many ICE member have lax qualifications, and some refuse to turn on their body cameras. This march is taking place in California. The protesters want to close all detention centers and end cruel immigration policies. They have started at the immigration detention facility in the Mojave Desert called Adelanto ICE Processing Center. The facility is run by the Geo Group, a controversial private prison company. A large percentage of people at these detention centers don't have a criminal record. Tons of sources document the deplorable conditions, from sanitation conditions to lax medical service to people. Last September, Ismael Ayala-Uribe died being only 39, as he was denied medical care. It was ignored. Therefore, we need a comprehensive immigration solution that focuses on an orderly process, compassion, and a ban of ICE permanently.
Some sad and breaking news is that the iconic singer Frederick Anthony Jackson passed away on October 5, 2026. He set a large standard for R&B music and soul music. We know of his hit songs of the 1980s like You Are My Lady in 1985 and his song Love Survives with Irene Cara in 1989, which was part of the soundtrack of the 1989 film All Dogs Go to Heaven. He was born up North in Harlem, New York City, on October 2, 1956. He was trained as a gospel singer from an early age as many icons of music were trained in the church. He sang at White Rock Baptist Church of Harlem. He met Paul Lawrence at this church to be his record producer and songwriting partner. He sang in many groups in the 1970s like Laurence Jones Ensembel, the band Mystic Merlin, etc. before he had his solo career by 1981. He made music well into the 21st century like his single A Million Ways in 2019. He lived to be 70 years old. People of a certain age knew of his music during their adulthood. People like us younger folks like who are Older Millennials or younger knew of her from records, TV shows like Unsung, and hearing stories about his music from our parents and grandparents. Freedie Jackson was a private man, and his legacy is open to the world on how musical excellence will always stand the test of time.
Rest in Power Brother Freddie Jackson.
