Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Millions of Americans will be reminded of the pro-woman, pro-life perspective when they take to the streets on Sunday, October 4. That's because thousands of pro-life advocates in cities and towns across the country will be there to share the message with them.

The Life Chain has been a peaceful, prayerful pro-life witness for decades as Americans young and old hold signs proclaiming "Abortion Kills Children" and "Abortion Hurts Women."

Standing along busy street corners, pro-life advocates will enjoy the thumbs up they receive from the majority of Americans who are pro-life and endure honking horns and obscene gestures from some who are not.

Royce Dunn, the national director of the Life Chain, says the event is needed so people can respond to the need for additional pro-life leadership from the churches and a government that is promoting abortion.

"As repressive clouds of spiritual deception and deadly government mandates encompass both church and nation ever more aggressively, the pulpit and pew must fight ever more devotedly to defend our essential values," he told LifeNews.com.

He said "Life Chain provides each of us an easy, affordable, yet very purposeful way to defend those values."

Dunn says the success of the Life Chain in a given community "will rely heavily on pastoral leadership" with church ministers and lay leaders who actively decided to take on the abortion culture.

He tells LifeNews.com that God certainly abhors abortion but is more upset when Christians don't take a stand for what is right.

Dunn says there are over 1,300 local Life Chain events in both the United States and Canada and with most events averaging 100 people or more -- with some having as many as one thousand people or more. As a result, more than a quarter million people will likely participate in the Life Chain next month.

Patty Knap will participate in a Life Chain on Long Island in New York.

She calls the event a "silent witness event is part of a national campaign to give a voice to defenseless unborn children" and a way to "give support of young women in crisis pregnancies."

"In dozens of towns and citizens, mile after mile of pro-life supporters will bring awareness to the fact that babies are being aborted right in their community, with young women deceived into abortion by the highly profitable abortion industry," she says.

Knap calls the event one that is "dedicated to promoting the sanctity of human life from fertilization to natural death."

Other signs participants will hold include "Adoption - the Loving Option," "Jesus Forgives & Heals," "Lord, Forgive Us and Our Nation," "Life - the first Inalienable Right" and "Pray to End Abortion." LifeChain also provides signs in Spanish for Hispanic communities.
