Owosso, MI (LifeNews.com) -- Several pro-life organizations have issued statements today condemning the shooting of pro-life advocate James Pouillon. The local abortion protester was standing outside a high school in this small Michigan city when a shooter drove by in a vehicle and shot him multiple times.
Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue, knew James, who has been described as a peaceful pro-life sign guy.
"We are stunned by Jim's murder. We extend our condolences to the family and share in their grief over his loss," Newman told LifeNews.com after the shooting. "His life was characterized by his love and concern of the vulnerable, and he will be greatly missed."
"We denounce this senseless act of violence in the strongest terms, and pray that this murderer will be swiftly brought to justice," he said.
The shooting comes at a time when pro-life groups have been receiving high numbers of death threats in the wake of the shooting of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller of Kansas and the strong pro-life opposition to the government-run health care bills pending in Congress that open the door for massive abortion funding.
"We have received literally hundreds of death threats in the past three months. Our office has been vandalized three times," Newman said. "Just yesterday, the FBI was in our office and picked up a stack of threatening letters that we received."

Steven H. Aden, the senior legal counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, represented Pouillon several years ago to defend his free speech rights in a case where local police unjustly arrested him.
“Jim Pouillon was a courageous friend of both unborn children and the First Amendment right to speak up on their behalf, and he will be sorely missed," Aden told LifeNews.com.
"I hope his loss, and his example, will inspire many others – particularly young people – to take up the cross he bore and defend the right of all of God’s children to live, and to live in peace," he said.

Life Issues Institute director Bradley Mattes also sent LifeNews.com comments on Pouillon's shooting death.
“It’s hard to imagine the hatred that motivates someone to murder, regardless of which side of the debate they're on. It’s all desperately wrong,” he said. “The murder of millions of innocent unborn babies is spilling out onto the streets of America. I pray we can stop the killing on all fronts. Our prayers are with Jim’s family
Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-life society, headquartered in Michigan, also talked with LifeNews.com.

“Jim died while giving a peaceful witness to the sacredness of human life," she said.
"He stood outside of the local high school on many occasions holding a sign of a baby to send a message to the students that abortion is the taking of innocent life. Now his life has been taken as he stood in witness against the injustice of abortion," she continued.
"When violence is aimed at those who provide abortion—pro-life leaders are swift to condemn it. We call on the pro-abortion community to condemn this violence against Jim Pouillon," she added.
Charmaine Yoest, the president of Americans United for Life, told LifeNews.com that her group is hoping for a "full investigation into the matter" and "expect that the person or persons who committed this terrible act be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

It is curious how the media is doing their level best to ignore this story.

I know we are going crazy protesting against Abortions; however, have we lost the reason why abortions are being considered???? It’s called “Sex” and most of these are out of marriage…this is what we need to be discussing in order to stop putting the band aid on abortions…then we will see less of them taking place…Please, let’s talk more about Abstinence…

Yes, the media won't talk about this story for obvious reasons since most of the mainstream media is extremely pro-abortion.

Abstinence is fine to talk about, but solutions to abortion is more than that. It's pregnancy crisis centers, changing laws, peaceful protests, education, and a multifaceted approach.
