The British government squanders millions of dollars by having secret GM potato trials while non-GM variety is already performing spectacularly. Jonathan Benson from Natural News.com have found out about something. He found that in the span of 10 years, the British government have secretly subsidized research that deals with developing a genetically modified (or GM) potato resistant to blight. Blight is the fungal disease responsible for causing the infamous Irish potato famine. The Indy media UK reported that the Sainsbury Laboratory (or the group tasked with development) spent already about 1.7 million pounds (or 2.7 million dollars) worth of public funds to form the GM potato. This is spite of the fact that a natural blight resistant variety has already been successfully bred and in use for the past three years. GM crops are widely cultivated in America. GM crops have never been commercially grown in the UK. There was widespread public opposition to their introduction in 1997. There is continued opposition now. GM food is out of food and off the land largely in the UK. The reports of GM potato research being done by Sainsbury with public funding is so secretive that nobody know if there has been air trials of test GM potatoes occurring or not. There has been a small Welsh research group. This group three years ago bred successfully a natural, non-GM potato variety with natural resistance to blight. This potato variety has been in cultivation ever since that time. The blight resistant potato non-GM crops are now available in more than 6 different varieties. It’s safe for the environment, it’s safe for human consumption, and it does not require the yearly repurchasing of terminator seeds and expensive chemical pesticides in order to grow. The British government continues to pour money into useless endeavors to form a GM variety. This was prompted Stop GM (or an UK group devoted to ending the spread of GMOs) to take action. The group is holding an event on July 23 to speak out against the abuse of public funds by the UK government and it needs your help to make it a success. The event will have the dropping off of a trailer full of safe, non-GM blight resistant potatoes at the Sainsbury research center. This is where the GM potato trials are taking place. So, GM foods have dangers those organic foods than help to cure.
Some people have viewed our political system as the evil of 2 lessers. Right now, we have the war on terror that goes on possibly perpetually. There are Democrats compromising politically as well. The GOP is now promoting austerity. Some of them want to cut social programs, fund heavily the wealthy and the military. The Democrats and the Republicans are equally responsible for this reality today. Republicans attacked the Democrats and the President. So, the President and the Democrats desire to acquiesce and compromise to the Republican’s demands. Many Republicans for years desired to support no governmental programs except for the military and corporate interests. They are hypocrites for opposing the government except if it’s the military, the DHS, or the military industrial complex. They lie and claim that the government doesn’t create jobs when a Congress seat by definition is a government job. A new Democratic President is not a hindrance to the goals of reactionaries. Senate Democrats like Charles Schumer and Joseph Lieberman publicly agreed with the Republicans that Medicare and Medicaid are on the table. They want them to be in order to meet the extreme Republican demands for budget cuts. The Republican House leader Boehner will mostly have his way after his golf game with President Barack Obama. The mainstream political figures refuse to use the pulpit to promote the social safety net. The 2012 Presidential campaign is here. Both sides are raising money in their campaigns. Being politically independent is fine with me as well. Democrats have support the austerity extraordinaire Alan Simpson to be in the deficit reduction commission, and it was Democrats that led the attack in Libya (another war based on lies). Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are extremists, but even they aren’t responsible for some of the compromises made by the Democrats. Palin and Limbaugh use rhetoric to place some folks’ minds in panic while real issues aren’t known to puppets. The Democrats have a weird history of supporting some social programs and supporting war (similar to the actions of President Lyndon Johnson). We should use common sense. I believe in harmony, but not a charade. I will not support people not supporting my interests. So, it’s important to have compassion and working together, but not the evisceration of our social safety net.
There is another pro-life activist being attacked outside of an abortion clinic. The pro-abortion activist is arrested for assault. The whole incident was caught on tape outside of an abortion clinic in Albuquerque on Tuesday. The victim said that the attack was unprovoked. Bud Shaver is the victim. He said that he was just having a conversation with a woman. Later, the woman started kicking him and then cut his head with her keys. The video is shown on YouTube and presents a woman yelling and hitting 2 people. She was throwing punches with her fist and she had keys in her hands. It was a fast occurrence. He said that he had to defend himself by withstanding the blows. The gash on his head was huge. KOB Eyewitness News 4 got a look at the cut the day after the incident, showing a much improved laceration. Heather Mills asked Shaver, “Do you think you’re blowing it a little out of proportion with the dangerousness of this attack?” Shaver told her, “No, the reason we responded the way we did with EMT and 9-11 was because my head was bleeding. I mean there was blood. I didn’t know the extent of the injuries that I had received.” The pro-life protests by Shaver had shown accurately graphic signs in Southwestern Women’s Options abortion clinic in Albuquerque. APD officer Robert Gibbs said ultimately, it comes down to Shaver’s right to free speech. “He was exercising his free speech that we are all allowed to with the First Amendment. That doesn’t mean you can get up and hit somebody or batter somebody,” Gibbs said. The APD said that a criminal summons will be filed for the woman in the video. She will be charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of battery. APD expects those charges to come and they will release the woman’s man. Southwestern Women’s Option decided not to comment on this story, but to mention that Shaver protests at the clinic regularly. This woman attacked pro-life activists protesting in from a late-term abortion clinic. Operation Rescue President Troy Newman heard of the investigation. The police of Albuquerque acted fair in their actions. The woman should experience justice for her actions. Shaver works for Project Defend Life. He videotaped after the attack began. The pro-life people threw their arms up in a defensive posture. There was one man threatening pro-life people with a gun. One person jumped the curb in an attempt to run over peaceful men and women. Ironically, this attack occurred just days after Operation Rescue released a powerful 911 recording made from another abortion clinic in Albuquerque, UNM Center for Reproductive Health, where a woman could clearly be heard struggling for life. Operation Rescue found a series of 911 emergency recordings that was made from Southwestern Women’s Options where the violent attack took place that clearly indicate life threatening abortion complications (that required emergency hospitalization). Operation Rescue wants to release more of these recordings. So, violence against pro-life people is here and the mainstream media refuses to report on this issue for obvious reasons.
The AFP reported that the head of Libya’s rebels’ National Transitional Council Mustafa Abdel Jailil will meet with NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen and European Union President Herman van Rompuy in Brussels next week. “NATO has had contacts with the (National Transitional Council) as part of the broad international efforts to find a solution to the Libya crisis,” a NATO official said. Rep. Kucinich and others in Congress wants none of the funds made available for a bill that may be used for the use of military force against Libya. On March 5, 2011, the council issued a statement that declared itself to be the sole representative of all Libya. The council refers to the Libyan state as the Libyan Republic. There is evidence that the council and the so-called rebels are filled with al-Qaeda members who participated in killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq. The Obama administration notified Congress in April it would provide $25 million in “nonlethal aid” to the rebels’ effort to overthrow Col. Moammar Gadaffi. In June 30, Algeria’s foreign minister in charge of Africa and Maghreb said that the French armed supplies to the rebels. The rebels are making their way to al-Qaeda and will probably be used against governments in Algeria, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger. “What should concern us most is that both Jalil and Younis [a former Libyan Minister of Interior] come from the Haribi tribe, the dominant one in northeast Libya, and the one that overlaps with al Qaeda,” Webster Tarpley wrote on March 24. “As noted, Al Qaeda was founded by the United States and the British during the struggle against the Soviets in Afghanistan.” The U.S. House rejected cutting off funds for the NATO-led operations in Libya. They voted to forbid the Pentagon from arming, training, or advising the rebels. Senator John McCain backs the al-Qaeda rebels. He denounced the vote as deeply disturbing. The neocon and former U.N. ambassador John Bolton wants to attack Libya and the President has reluctance to do it because of the stalemate in Libya.
