Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Health care financing and reform could become a major component of the presidential campaign, but pro-life advocates are concerned that it could wind up promoting abortions. One pro-life group is worried about the new national campaign by Health Care for America Now.

The reform group has begun a well-financed campaign in 50 cities across the United States but Olivia Gans with the Virginia Society for Human Life told LifeNews.com a prominent abortion business is involved.

"This is seen as a shot-across-the-bow for fully federally funded abortion-on-demand under the auspices of [health care reform]," Gans said.

That's because Planned Parenthood of America, which does more than one-quarter of all abortions nationwide and receives hundreds of millions in government funding, has given at least $500,000 to Health Care for America Now.

In addition, Planned Parenthood is one of the national organizations on the steering committee of the health care group.

Gans said Americans can support health care reform as long as it doesn't include the promotion and funding of abortion.

"The wholesale killing of unborn babies as practiced by Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a totally inappropriate and totally incompatible component of health care for the sick and suffering, and especially for the poor mother who needs care and help, not the killing of her unborn child," Gans explained.

"The gauntlet has been thrown. The bandwagon is rolling," Gans added -- urging pro-life advocates to speak up.

"Now is the time for every citizen to speak up to demand that abortion services and their providers be excluded from health care reform plans," she said.
