Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life group has weighed in on news that abortion practitioner Rapin Osathanondh has been indicted in the legal abortion death of Laura Smith. Her mother, Eileen Smith, has responded as well and said she is glad he will likely be held accountable in her daughter’s abortion death.
Laura Hope Smith was just 22 years when she died during an abortion committed by Rapin Osathanondh last year.
Her mother, Eileen Smith, sought to bring justice for her daughter and shed light on the details and circumstances surrounding her death.

"I am ecstatic to hear such great news,” Eileen told LifeNews.com. “Nothing will bring my daughter back but it is comforting to know that justice is being brought for her death.”
Eileen Smith said she hopes this indictment will help keep the pressure on other abortion practitioners who put women’s health at risk.
I hope this will make other abortionists take notice. I pray that I am an example to other mothers and that I will not stand alone in my crusade. Please join my voice,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wendy Wright, the president of Concerned Women for America, also commented on the new developments.

She told LifeNews.com, “Laura deserved better than how she was treated by this abortionist and others who helped to cover up his misdeeds. Abortionists are not above the law. We are grateful for officials who enforce the law against abortionists who harm women."
Tammy Mosher, the state director of CWA’s affiliate in Massachusetts, also commented on the indictment.
"This is an overwhelming breakthrough,” she said.

“It is saddening that this success comes at the expense of Laura's life. I hope this will be a wake-up call to every woman and man to understand that a baby is not the only life lost in an abortion,” she said.

Osathanondh is not the first abortionist to have untrained staff assisting with patients under general anesthesia:

- Center for Reproductive and Sexual Health (medical director David Gluck) had nobody on staff qualified to administer general anesthesia, resulting in death of "Kelly".

- Hanan Rotem had a receptionist with no medical training administering general anesthesia; I have been unable to determine if this was a factor in the death of Gloria Aponte. Rotem was a member of the National Abortion Federation.

- Joe Bills Reynolds had the janitor administering general anesthesia in his facility, where Gaylene Golden underwent her fatal abortion.

Osathanondh is also not the first abortionist to face charges in the death of a legal abortion patient:

- Dr. Robert Sherman was charged with murder in the 1975 abortion death of Rita McDowell.

- Frank Robinson was charged with murder in the 1982 abortion death of Jennifer Suddeth.

- David Benjamin was indicted for murder in the 1993 abortion death of Guadalupe Negron.

- Bruce Steir (rhymes with "fear") was charged with murder in the 1996 abortion death of Sharon Hamplton.

- John Biskind was charged with homicide in the 1998 abortion death of Lou Ann Herron.
