Abortion News

Abuse has dramatically increased since abortion became legal

Body: PRO-ABORTION ARGUMENT:
"Having more unwanted children results in more child abuse."

PRO-LIFE ANSWER: Part II
Child abuse has not decreased since abortion was legalized, but dramatically increased.

Statistics reveal a sharp rise in child abuse in countries that legalize abortion. In 1973, when abortion was legalized, child abuse cases in the United States were estimated at 167,000. By 1982 the number had risen to 929,000. Just in the first ten years after legalization of abortion in America, child abuse increased over 500%! By 1991 there were 2.5 million reported child abuse cases, fifteen times more than in 1973.

While the increased attention on child abuse in the mid-eighties no doubt accounted for the reporting of abuse that was already happening, the rise was extraordinary prior to this point. The experts agree that child abuse--not just the reporting of it--has dramatically increased since the early 70's.

The actual increase in child abuse is even more dramatic than it appears, However, since abortion has left us over 50+ million fewer children in America to abuse. Furthermore, these children were abused to death by abortion, so they should also be counted as victims of child abuse.

Fiji Woman Dies After Botched Abortion, Second Abortion Victim in Six Years

Suva, Fiji (LifeNews.com) -- A Fiji woman has died from a botched abortion and she is the second woman in the last six years to become an abortion victim. The woman was a mother of five children and apparently had the abortion for birth control reasons, but it resulted in her death after a severe blood loss.

The Fiji Times indicated local officials took the unnamed 35-year-old woman on Thursday to Labasa Hospital.

Because her condition worsened as they jetted her by boat to the medical center, they detoured and went to Tukavesi hospital instead, but she died shortly after arriving.

Local police are investigating the abortion to determine where she had it and what caused the massive blood loss from the abortion procedure, which relatives told the newspaper was done last Wednesday.

The woman's abortion death follows another one that saw former Fiji Medical Association president Sachidar Nand Mudaliar found guilty of killing student Poonam Kumar in a botched abortion he did on her in March 2003.
Last year, a judicial panel ordered a new trial for Mudaliar concerning the March 2003 botched abortion.

Mudaliar wants to reopen his medical practice and says he should have the right to do so because his original conviction was quashed in favor of a new trial.

However, in March, the Fiji Solicitor-General, filed an injunction on behalf of the Ministry of Health to stop Mudaliar from resuming practicing medicine. http://www.lifenews.com/int1123.html

Attorneys for Mudaliar say he should have the right to reopen his medical practice because his original conviction was quashed in favor of a new trial. Naidu Law, the law firm representing the embattled physician, said their client had the right to engage in medicine again despite killing a patient.

However, interim Minister for Health, Dr. Neil Sharma, told the Times that Mudaliar was taken off the list of licensed physicians after the botched abortion.
