Sunday Advice from Savant and Others

I would question the whole corporate logic which governs the university, and which undermines real education. In fact, why should people have to pay to learn--or to go into such a morass of debt that they become prisoners of corporate banking interests for many years of their lives.
Real education--which schools need to commit themselves to--are valuable not only in terms of the intellectual and social growth of the individual student, but also for the formation of an highly developed citizenry enabled for lives of freedom and self-determination.
This should be the right of every citizen, every human being of whatever race, color, creed or gender

The interesting thing is that many whites are the ones who are always blaming others for THEIR troubles, despite the fact that compared to other non-white groups they're relatively privileged.
Many whites blame blacks, Mexicans, Muslims,Jews, foreigners or the poor for their bad breaks in life.
What's interesting is that whites are do suffer injustice, but mainly from OTHER WHITES who belong to the privileged classes.
But instead of seeing reality for what it is, they blame people even more disadvantaged than themselves. The social backwardness of the USA is largely due to this white myopia.

One of the great things about becoming educated is that you do become SUPERIOR to fools and racists like OhREally. And by virtue of your moral and intellectual superiority, you become the MASTER.
Solely by virtue of the qualities of your mind and the contents of your character. And this really gets under the skin of the white racists.
I think that whatever his shortcomings (and there are quite few) one the reasons that Barack Obama is so hated in parts of white America is because he's superior to those who hate him, when (according to the mythology of race) he ought to be inferior.
And yet that is not the main reason (even if it make one's mouth water) that we ought to seek the best education possible. Even if you're a janitor you should seek to become educated (not just academically trained) because education enables for a life of FREEDOM.
Have any of you ever read the LIFE AND TIMES OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS, or maybe his NARRATIVE? You may recall that the slaveowner himself stated that if a slave learns to read and to think, there would be no holding him. It would forever unfit him to be a slave.
Well contemporary forms of injustice also depend upon popular ignorance. Whoever is WILLINGLY ignorant, willingly undeveloped in his or her mental development, is complicit in his own enslavement.
Classical philosophers in antiquity used to argue that the "rational principle" of the soul is the part of the human being which is MOST HUMAN, and which makes him or her akin to the gods.
Cultivate that intellectual principle, sisters and brothers. Lay claim to your FULL HUMANITY. And let the racist rot away as decayed relics of the past.
Claim your full rights, and nothing less.
