News about the World.

One way to honor the sacrifice and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is to realize that we have an urgent emergency as it relates to democracy. Right now, voting rights are being attacked nationwide from the South to the Midwest. Also, we see that compromising with folks that won't support basic freedoms won't work. Deeds are so much better than rhetoric, so we have to use plans of action in promoting voting rights, environmental rights, civil rights, civil liberties, universal health care, and anti-militarism. He was a brave man. He was stabbed, beaten by a racist in a church, hit in the head with a rock in Chicago (in 1966), threatened constantly, lied about, and illegally monitored by the FBI. Yet, Dr. King, Coretta Scott King, and their allies carried forward to advance the cause of the black freedom movement heroically. The events of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Birmingham protests, the Chicago housing rights movement, and to the Memphis sanitation strike all relate to how the oppressed have the right to stand up for their God-given human rights in their goal to be free. Dr. King was only 39 years old when he passed away. He was young, so the younger generation has every right to establish their own legacies of service, activism, compassion, and advancing justice. Justice is the legitimate aim that we seek. That aim is our birthright plainly speaking.

Counsel Jack Smith leads the Trump probe to determine if Donald Trump is to be charged with felonies related to the January 6th insurrection. Smith is known for being aggressive in court legally. Recently, Michael Cohen met with NY prosecutors looking into the Trump Organization and Stormy Daniels payments. Cohen was the former personal attorney to Donald Trump, and later, Michael Cohen became one of Trump's most well-known critics. The prosecutors want to find out about the Trump organization's involvement in hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg told CNN that his office's investigation of Trump organization will continue. Nationwide, Trump faces multiple investigations ranging from election fraud to various economic issues.

Recently, a failed GOP candidate was arrested on suspicion of orchestrating shootings at the homes of Democrats in New Mexico. This person believes in the 2020 election fraud lie. His name is Solomon Pena. He lost his 2022 run for state House District 14. Albuquerque police arrested him on Monday. He is accused of paying and conspiring with four men to shoot at the homes of two state legislators and two county commissioners in December and January. He is accused of trying to participate in at least one of the shootings according to authorities. The shootings are politically motivated according to Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. Right-wing radical people have long used violence and even murder against those who disagree with their extreme, nefarious views. At the end of the day, justice must be done to make sure that folks' lives are protected.

Ukraine still suffers massive infrastructure damage. Russian forces did another war crime by using a missile strike on an apartment building in Dnipro. That is at central Ukraine. It caused the deaths of at least 40 civilians. It is one of the deadliest single attacks of the entire war. Russian forces want to target emergency power locations too. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to fight for the eastern town of Soledar. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the collapse of Ukraine's energy infrastructure could happen at any time. The UK is sending Ukraine battle banks, and Americans are sending Ukraine resources as well. Putin is not a freedom fighter. He is an authoritarian tyrant like the czars of old. Vladimir Putin executed an illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

She made history as the first African American woman as First Lady of the United States of America. When evil is widespread, we have the right to expose it and speak up against it. Today is the Birthday of Sister Michelle Obama, and she is now 59 years old. Her story is an American story. For years, Michelle Obama has spoken out in favor of healthy living, endorsed diversity, and called for more representation of girls including women in politics, education, entrepreneurship, and other endeavors of life. That is why she desired the missing, kidnapped Nigerian girls to come home. That is why Michelle Obama said when we go high when they go low. Michelle Obama promoted total voting rights and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2021.
I wish Sister Michelle Obama more Blessings.
