A CNN poll states the obvious — a majority of American believe the occupation of Afghanistan is turning into another Vietnam. “Fifty-two percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday say the eight year long conflict has turned into a situation like the U.S. faced in the Vietnam War, with 46 percent disagreeing,” CNN reports.
This U.S. Navy photo supposedly shows a North Vietnamese patrol boat during an attack on the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964. The attack has since been debunked as a government hoax used to start the Vietnam War.
“Older Americans are most likely to see parallels between Afghanistan and Vietnam — possibly because they remember the Vietnam War, rather than reading about it in textbooks,” notes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
This older American, who narrowly escaped the draft in 1971, vividly remembers Vietnam. I also remember something not addressed in the CNN poll — the official story used to start the war was a cynical and criminal fabrication.
In August, 1964, we were told North Vietnam attacked U.S. warships in the Gulf of Tonkin. In response, LBJ ordered “retaliatory” air strikes against North Vietnam and Congress passed a joint resolution which granted Johnson the authority to conduct military operations in Southeast Asia without a congressional declaration of war.

In 2005, the National Security Agency declassified a number of documents revealing the Gulf of Tonkin incident was a fabrication. “The parallels between the faulty intelligence [sic] on Tonkin Gulf and the manipulated intelligence used to justify the Iraq War make it all the more worthwhile to re-examine the events of August 1964 in light of new evidence,” writes National Security Archive research fellow John Prados.

In regard to the invasion of Iraq, the government did not fall victim to “faulty intelligence” — it deliberately created fake intelligence and worked closely with the corporate media to pawn absurd lies off on the American people. Minus the complicity of The New York Times and the corporate media in 1964, the Vietnam War would have been virtually impossible. Ditto the invasion of Afghanistan.
As noted by esteemed researcher and author David Ray Griffin on the Alex Jones Show earlier today, the U.S. government created and exploited the attacks of September 11, 2001.
The Reichstag fire, Operation Himmler (the Nazi Germany false flag operation to create the appearance of Polish aggression against Germany), Operation Gladio (a series of bombings sponsored by the CIA-NATO in Italy), the KGB bombings in Russia to justify war against Chechnya, Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty and the Lavon Affair (a foiled attack on a U.S. diplomatic facility in Egypt), and Operation Northwoods — these are all examples of false flag attacks.
It can be argued that nearly all major wars of the last century were started due to either false flag operations or cynical exploitation of political events.
The suspicious bombing of the battleship Maine in the Havana harbor was exploited by the Hearst press and the U.S. government to start the Spanish-American war.
The sinking of the Lusitania — a passenger ship secretly carrying 6 million pounds of artillery shells and rifle ammunition — was used to get the U.S. involved in the First World War, even though the vast majority of Americans opposed Europe’s war.
The U.S. knew Japan planned to invade Pearl Harbor in response to a U.S. embargo and refusing it use of the Panama Canal and access to Venezuelan oil. The U.S. had broken the Japanese encryption codes and knew what was going to happen but FDR did not dispatch this information to Pearl Harbor.
The Korean War was the direct result of covert action involving leaders of Taiwan, South Korea and the US military-industrial complex under the direction of Eisenhower’s Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles.
Most Americans are ignorant of these historical facts. However, when it comes to war, they are suspicious of the government.

New World Order minion and Obama foreign policy adviser during the election, Zbigniew Brzezinski, told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 2007 that “major strategic decisions seem to be made within a very narrow circle of individuals — just a few, probably a handful, perhaps not more than the fingers on my hand. And these are the individuals, all of whom but one, who made the original decision to go to war, and used the original justifications to go to war.”
“Many Americans make the connection between 9/11 and Afghanistan, and the public recognizes that there is little chance that the Afghan government can deal with terrorists on its own,” the CNN poll states. Six in 10 Americans “feel it’s necessary to keep U.S. forces in Afghanistan in order to prevent terrorist attacks on the United States. And a similar number say the conflict in Afghanistan is part of the war against terrorism which began with the 9/11 attacks in 2001.”
In other words, regardless of the fact most Americans believe Afghanistan is the new Vietnam, they buy into the phony global war on terror and the absurd fairy tale of medieval Muslims in caves on the other side of the world able to make NORAD stand-down and defy the laws of physics.
CNN and the corporate media are notorious for manipulating polls in favor of government policy. Many Americans in fact do not make the alleged connection between 9/11 and Afghanistan, especially those who know Bush and the neocons planned to invade Afghanistan before the 9/11 attacks.

A CNN online poll conducted in November, 2004, reported that 90% of people responding believed there was a government cover-up surrounding 9/11.
In 2006, a Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll revealed that “[m]ore than a third of the American public suspects that federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East.”
Also in 2006, a New York Times/CBS News poll reported that only 16% of Americans think the government is telling the truth about 9/11 and the intelligence prior to the attacks.
And yet, according to this latest CNN poll, many Americans believe CIA patsies hiding out in a remote cave in a backwater country are responsible.
As usual, something is rotten in Denmark — or Atlanta where the Pentagon disinfo operation CNN has its world headquarters.
