Eliphas Levi is the name adopted by the French magician and occult writer Alphonse Louis Constant.
Biography
Alphonse Louis Constant was born on February 8, 1810 in the area no. 5, rue des Fosses Saint-Germain-des-Prés (renamed rue de l'Ancienne Comédie) in Paris, the son of Jean Joseph Constant and Jeanne Agnès Beaucourt. Thanks to J.-B.Hubault Malmaison abbot, who organized a school in his parish free basic education for poor children, he began his studies, entering the seminary in 1825 in Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet, led by then Abbot Frère-Colonna, who probably directed towards the study of magic.

In 1830, having finished his studies in rhetoric, as the rule went to the seminary of Issy-les-Moulineaux, central district of Paris, to finish their two years of philosophy ... In the same year his father died. After Issy, entered the seminary of Saint-Suplice to study theology. There he was ordained subdeacon and tonsured. Ordained a deacon on December 19, 1835, finally leaving the seminar in June 1836 before receiving the sacrament of order.

The unfinished facade of a classical style of the Church of Saint-Suplice is the one of a Jesuit-style church. It is the work of Giovanni Niccolo Servandoni, architect and decorator.
