That's not really true...Canada for example has a 5% federal tax on top of the regular sales tax and they still have an income tax and while the government deficit is alot less than the US, they still have some deficit. Since it's a consumption tax, the government only receives what people spend, nothing more. It does pay for universal healthcare though.

@NickB1121 Yes that's true, he wanted to start with seniors first, but eventually he wanted health care coverage for everyone, hence 'universal' health care.

this man is exceptional! the delivery analysis and compassion is outstanding and essential!!!
his speech is indeed witty, logical, structured, essential, simple, and most of all original and coming from his independent mind!
An American mind at his best....unfortunately never achieved again yet
this what had made this country great......
this matter is too important.....to leave it to misinformation and deception...

Kennedy's speech here depicts the art of engaging people to listen to something substantial delivered in a precise and articulate way. Even a thousand miles journey begins with first step and he has taken that first step here to get the bill passed. Remember we are talking about 1962 where HAWKS in the establishment were more conservative than they are now. " The business of the government is the business of the People and People are right here."

Brilliant speaker, these words are true today. JFK was brilliant.
on healthcare in Europe...
"What we are now talking about doing, most of the countries of Europe did years ago,"
"We are behind every country pretty nearly in Europe in this matter of medical care for our citizens,"
Still true today.

This was the man who made the Russians remove offensive nuclear weapons from Cuba. He fought for this country in WW II, he died for this country as President in the streets of Dallas. He fought for civil rights, and died for it. He fought against the old cronies of government and died for it. He did take care of us, and died for it.
1) every other developed nation is not on the gold standard either. It's become obsolete to rely on gold as a use of money. What are you going to do? Give someone a piece of gold to purchase something?
2) Tax cuts increase the deficit.
3) Eliminate income taxes and the federal government basically loses its main source of revenue. Besides, every other developed nation also has an income tax, I don't think you can escape it by moving.
