U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice emerged from a closed-door meeting of the United Nations Security Council Wednesday and said the Council and the United States are prepared to attack the al-Assad government in Syria.
Ambassador Rice comments on Syria at the United Nations in New York on May 30, 2012
On Thursday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the Houla massacre will be used to build and international consensus for military intervention. “Every day that goes by makes the argument for it stronger,” she said while addressing Danish university students.
Former diplomat Dennis Rosssaid a “safe zone” should be established in northern Syria. In March of 2011, the United Nations imposed a “no-fly zone” over Libya in response to a manufactured “humanitarian crisis”subsequently used to invade the country and overthrow its government. Ross is a member of both the CFR and the Trilateral Commission.
Rice told reporters “members of this Council and members of the international community are left with the option only of having to consider whether they are prepared to take actions outside of the Annan plan and the authority of this Council.”
The Kofi Annan peace plan was arranged in February by the Arab League at the United Nations.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, said on May 1 that both sides had violated a ceasefire agreement brokered on April 12. The United States blames the al-Assad regime for violence wracking the country while ignoring terrorist attacks committed by the CIA and MI5 proxy, the Free Syrian Army.
Following the massacre in Houla, the Free Syrian Army called for an end to the peace plan. “We announce that unless the UN Security Council takes urgent steps for the protection of civilians, Annan’s plan is going to go to hell,” the Free Syrian Army declared.
Syria’s ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar Jaafari, said on Wednesday that the Houla massacre was perpetuated by “outsiders,” a reference to the Free Syrian Army. “Many Syrian innocents got killed because of this misbehavior of these outsiders,” he said.
In February, we covered a report issued by Arab League observers in Syria that mentioned an “armed entity’ killing civilians and police and conducting terrorist attacks. Casualties from these attacks are attributed to the al-Assad government and used to build a case against Syria in the United Nations. According to the Arab League report, the Free Syrian Army and “armed opposition groups” are responsible for many of the killings.
In January, it was reported that MI6, the CIA, and British SAS are in Syria working with the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian National Council to overthrow the al-Assad regime. The Free Syrian Army is widely recognized as a creation of NATO. It is comprised largely of militantsfrom the Muslim Brotherhood – itself an asset of British intelligence – and is funded, supported, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Turkey.
Despite the fact the Free Syrian Army has said it will no longer abide by the Annan peace plan, ambassador Rice said the al-Assad government must remain committed to the peace plan. If Syria does not honor the peace plan, Rice said, the Security Council should act immediately.
Jean-Marie Guéhenno, Kofi Anan’s deputy, said Syria needs to take steps to convince the international community and the Syrian people that it is ready for a new course. No such steps were demanded of the Free Syrian Army.
The Obama administration has exploited the Houla massacre to push for additional harsh sanctions and possible military action against the Syrian government. Ambassador Rice’s comments reveal that a military response may be in the works after several days of “international outrage” orchestrated by the establishment media.
Webster Tarpley and others have noted that the United Nations and the U.S. are attempting to foment and exploit unrest in Syria in order to balkanize the country. “I think the US strategic role in the Middle East is the destruction of all existing national states. There is an outline for this that has been known for many years as the Bernard Lewis plan,” Tarpley said in April.
Bernard Lewis is a British “Orientalist” who believes the Arab and Muslim would should be fragmented and balkanized. He is a policy guru for the Israeli-centric neocons. His “divide and conquer” strategy was originally formulated by the British Empire.
“It has been expressed again by people like Zbigniew Brzezinski,” Tarpley continued. “Microstates, mini states, rump states, secessionism, chaos, warlords and NATO feels free to seize whatever assets they think are important, be it oil or water or strategic ports or things like this.”
Rice’s latest comments reveal that the United States will fully exploit the Houla massacre currently under investigation and may soon respond with military action to topple al-Assad. If NATO begins bombing Syria and providing military armaments and logistical support for the Free Syrian Army, it will only be a matter of time before Syria suffers the fate of Libya and Bashar al-Assad suffers the brutal and violent fate of Muammar Gaddafi.
