Inordinately long - well in the 1980's when Thatcher would not give enough money to the NHS. Now about 4 weeks --less for emergency operations and still less than 10% of GDP to give all a good/ excellent Health Service. I have just heard on the British radio 4 a woman who had private health insurance but chose to have the operation on the NHS because the NHS surgeon was better !!!

NEWS FLASH--Medicare began throwing seniors off the cliff when Bush and the GOP enacted the "Medicare Reform Act" which threw megabillions to his pals in in BIg Pharma while driving up prescription costs to seniors. If you wingnuts can read, I urge you to read "Deadly Spin" by Wendell Potter a former health industry insider if you want to know the REAL TRUTH about how the private health-care industry is making billions in profits from rationing and denying health care to Americans, WAKE UP!

The problem you and Thatcher had is that "socialist " National Health Service in the UK works better than we have in the US where over 50 million are not covered by insurance & (millions in pain with no hope of help) we are spending approaching 20% of our wealth on Health. In UK they spend 9% & all are covered. Thatcher was Prime Minister for 13 years & did not change the NHS cos a service for all is less bureaucratic & more efficient !!!

Use your brain, Chris. The only death panels are the insurance company claims adjusters. They decide whether they will pay for your care, and they do their best to weasel out of it. Every dollar they don't spend on you means more profit. Only an ignoramus would choose an insurance clerk over a panel of doctors trying to figure out what kind of care would be best for you. Would you rather have your doctor decide what you need, or the insurance company's? Let's have universal health care now!
