Claudine Gay stepped down from Harvard University. This comes after Gay's response to the anti-Semitism questioning by Congress involving Harvard University. Some are exploiting anti-Semitism to promote censorship in seeking to falsely equate dissent with far-right Netanyahu's policies with anti-Semitism. She stepped down with a heavy heart. I believe that Claudine Gay has a sincere heart to do the right thing in developing a strong educational environment at Harvard. She admitted her errors. It is just that the political climate today has been exploited by far-right elements to suppress progressive voices. Gay should have used no ambiguous language in her testimony to Congress, but she is not an anti-Semite or a promoter of anti-Semitism in America. Bill Ackman wanted Gay to resign and accused her of plagiarism. Claudine Gay has been a victim of threats and racist attacks by many people. Al Sharpton criticized Bill Ackman's campaign for Claudine Gay's resignation and called the resignation as being an attack on all black women. Claudine Gay denies committing plagiarism. Claudine Gay apologized for her actions in Congress. I don't believe she should have resigned. The racist anti-DEI agenda is very overt. Many far-right people are exploiting this situation to hate diversity, black people, women, and anyone who doesn't embrace the view that the West is totally infallible in contradiction of academic freedom. That is my view.
The Supreme Court will probably look at the disqualification issue involving the 14th Amendment. Back after the Civil War, there were reactionary groups harming people including black Americans and progressives. Therefore, many people during Reconstruction were disqualified from voting if they were involved with the Confederacy. Recently, Colorado and Maine disqualified Trump from being on the ballot. The 14th Amendment mentioned no exception concerning a President. An officer of the United States includes the President. The Supreme Court's role is to interpret the law as part of one of the three branches of government, so they will deal with the ballot challenges if the cases reach the Supreme Court. Different states are coming to different conclusions on this question of voting qualification. Such a Supreme Court decision must come before early voting for the Presidency starts.
Now in early January 2024, Russia has bombarded Ukraine's largest cities with more intensity. These are terrorist attacks against Ukraine's civilians. That is why it is important to give Ukraine aid to help defend their nation. If nothing is done, more Ukrainians will die. Some in the far right and on the fake left are praising Putin when Putin is a war criminal, a liar, a far-right nationalist, and a person who is a hypocrite. Putin is definitely watching the developments in America including the 2024 Presidential election. Putin wants Trump to win, so he can continue in his expansionist agenda. Putin has vowed intensified attacks against Ukraine. Putin blatantly believes that Ukraine is not a real country desiring to end the Zelenskyy regime. Russia has illegally annexed 5 regions of Ukraine. Few people are putting pressure on Putin on what he must do as Putin started the war. Ukraine is a democracy and must not allow its land to be stolen as a bargaining chip for peace.
There is a situation with Umar Johnson and Eminem. Some of Em's stans act like he is immune from any critique. It shows that many people follow cultic movements instead of logic. Umar is not perfect (as I don't agree with him on some issues), but he is right that Eminem isn't the greatest rapper of all time. It is part of something wild that some want to ignore Eminem mocking MC Hammer, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, and other black people. It's wild that some want to give Eminem the benefit of the doubt (when Eminem made racist slurs, called himself Rap God, and went out of his way to mock hip-hop pioneers including Melle Mel), but a black person making one imperfection in public is seen by many in the wider society as being unredeemable. This double standard is clear. We are clear that people of every color are talented in music including hip-hop. Yet, some have the misconception that hip-hop is just about lyrics. That is not the case. Hip-hop is about lyrics, flow, entertaining the crowd, dancing, graffiti, wisdom, Djing, beatboxing, and other aspects of the culture. Being a great artist is about how you use your words in the rhythm of the flow of the music with soul. Many people obsess with words without having a natural soul to the rhythm of music. Soul and versatility are part of great music.
The Israeli Supreme Court strike down a key part of Netanyahu's judicial overhaul plan. The government passed the decision that the Supreme Court in Israel can't strike down a law based on its "reasonableness." The Israeli Supreme Court has retained that power. Far-right people hate the decision. Benjamin Netanyahu didn't make a statement on whether he would adhere to the Supreme Court's decision or not. If he refuses to respect the verdict, that can cause a constitutional crisis in Israel. The U.S. government has pushed Israel to have a partial troop withdrawal in Gaza. Some Israeli troops are going home to retrain and contribute to the Israeli economy. We will see what will happen. Yet, Gaza has been completely destroyed, to be honest.
