Many descendants of my late 1st cousin Catherine Lee Peeples (1933-2006) live in South Carolina. I haven't really delved into the South Carolina connection to my relatives in an in-depth fashion until now. South Carolina is a Southern state whose history has been filled with tragedies and triumphs. A lot of great people live in the state of South Carolina indeed. Catherine Lee Peeples lived in Somerset, Maryland at Pocomoke (or in the Maryland area of the Eastern Shore). She married Aaron P. Nottingham Jr. (1932-1989). Their children are Deborah Lee Nottingham (b. 1953), Patricia Ann Nottingham (b. 1960. She married Alvin Purnell Robinson, who was born in 1953, on January 16, 1982, at Princess Anne, Virginia. Their child is Anthony Robinson), William Aaron Nottingham (b. 1961), Cynthia Nottingham (b. 1964), and Kimberly Michone Nottingham (b. 1968). My 2nd cousin Deborah Lee Nottingham married Arthur Wayne Onley (1953-2009) on March 16, 1974, in Northampton County, Virginia. Their children are my 3rd cousins Wayne Tiaz Onley (b. 1976) and Dimitra A. Onley (b. 1980. Her children are Dylahn and Marquis). Dimitra Onley lives in Irmo, South Carolina, and she is a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) at South Carolina Internal Medicine. Wayne Tiaz Onley married Kimberly Candace Burnett, and their child is Nature Naphtali Onley (b. 2012).
Arthur Wayne Onley was a great man whose parents were Louis and Flossie Mapp Onley. Arthur Onley was born in Exmore, Virginia. He served in the United States Army for 21 years (as a Sergeant First Class, being part of the Persian Gulf and Vietnam wars). His siblings are Shirley, Phillip, and Lewis. Deborah Lee Nottingham and I share the same ancestors as Charles and Fannie Peeples, my 2nd great-grandparents. Charles and Fannie Peeples are Deborah Lee Nottingham's great-grandparents. For example, Deborah Lee Nottingham's parents were Catherine Lee Peeples (1933-2006) and Aaron P. Nottingham (1932-1989). Catherine Lee Peeples's parents were William Rouser Peeples Sr. (1898-1952) and Goldie Elizabeth Taylor (1902-1985). William Rouser Peeples Sr.'s parents were Charles Peeples (1855-1922) and Fannie Fronianna Susanna Virginia Brown (1857-1946). So, everything comes full circle.
On July 24, 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech to the U.S. Congress. This is a unique time when many Democratic Congressmen and Congresswomen boycotted the speech by refusing to come to Congress or sitting down in Congress when Netanyahu spoke. I remember when he was Prime Minister of Israel back in the 1990s with the same old far-right rhetoric. The problem with Netanyahu's speech is that he omits many of the war crimes that the Israeli government has done in Gaza and the West Bank while claiming to have the moral high ground. Hamas is a barbaric organization who raped women, murdered innocent human life, and committed war crimes on October 7, 2021. Hamas's actions have no justification. Yet, international organizations (not the just United Nations) found that many in the Israeli government committed war crimes of bombing civilian locations, restricting some food and water to Palestinians, and doing other actions that contradict human rights. Benny Gantz, the former member of the Israeli war cabinet has accused Netanyahu of delaying the hostage deal (he said that negotiators have no instructions for more than a week). Netanyahu said that every protester in the streets of Washington is basically an Iranian puppet which is a lie. The vast majority of protesters have been peaceful. I don't agree with some of the protesters burning American flags as some protesters have done because it's tacky and doesn't solve anything. Many of them waved ISIS and Hezbollah flags which is an evil action.
I don't agree with some of the protesters using pro-Hamas graffiti on a statue (showing a triangle on it. The Nazis made Jewish people to wear triangles back in WWII), and some waving Hamas flags. Hamas is a terrorist organization who has done murder, rape, and promote anti-Semitism. That graffiti and waving pro-Hamas flags are offensive and evil period. This was done at Union Station (in Washington, D.C.). The graffiti was on the statue of Christopher Columbus, and we know that Columbus was an imperialist, racist, and oppressor of Native Americans in the Americas. In authoritarian nations, many of the protesters wouldn't dare burn the flags of those nations. Likewise, the massive deaths of Palestinians, the Palestinians treated as less than human, and the hostages still in Gaza have no justification. When you have Israeli hostages', families refusing to see the Netanyahu speech in Congress, then you know that it's real. As Rep. Jerry Nadler said, Netanyahu is making a media stunt without a serious tone to make a resolution. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called Itamar Ben Gir a pyromaniac. The indiscriminate bombings are just plain evil in Gaza. The Israeli hostages should be freed, and Palestinians should have their own liberation without delay. Three family members of Israeli Hostages, who wore T-shirts reading "Seal the Deal NOW," were arrested by congressional police. It is no secret that MAGA extremists like Trump and Mike Johnson support Netanyahu's far-right regime. We condemn Israeli athletes being threatened in Paris (many Israeli athletes were murdered back in the 1972 Munich Olympics which was totally wrong). Israelis and Palestinians deserve peace in the region without occupation, with a ceasefire, and with justice for Jewish and Arabic people in the region.
Right now, the far right-wing media, Trump, and Trump allies have issued personal, inappropriate, racist, and sexist attacks on Kamala Harris based on her race and gender. Trump ally Gorka called Kamala Harris "colored" which is highly offensive. With Kamala Harris' intellect and charisma, there has been a growth of enthusiasm in the Democratic Party. Many of the Democratic Party base has rallied to Vice President Kamala Harris. The haters don't even try to make a policy disagreement case against Kamala Harris, but they want to attack her Blackness. A lot of people don't know that when Kamala Harris was California's Attorney General, she created the Racial Profiling Advisory Board, created the 21st century Policing Working Group to foster discussion regarding implicit bias and building community trust, and created programs to help children and other victims of abuse. So, the truth is abundantly clear that Kamala Harris is a much better candidate than Donald Trump.
