Mormon leaders on Monday announced Thomas Monson, 80, had been named as the new head of the church to take over from the president who died a week ago.

Gordon Hinckley, who died on January 28 from natural causes at the age of 97 was buried Saturday in Salt Lake City, Utah, at a ceremony attended by thousands of followers. Among the mourners was Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Monson becomes the 16th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the Mormon movement is known.

Hinckley, considered a prophet by church members, had served as president since March 1995.

Founded in 1830 by American pioneer Joseph Smith, the Mormon church considers itself a Christian body, but bases its doctrines on the Book of Mormon, a text purporting to contain a fuller version of the words of Jesus Christ than that recorded in the Bible.

Smith said he received the content of the book on gold tablets during a vision of an angel called Moroni in 1827.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints claims a worldwide membership of 13 million people, but fewer than half of them actually live in the United States.

Thirty-six percent of church members reside in Latin America and 17 percent outside of the Western Hemisphere. A significant Mormon community exists in Canada.

Yes, and I've attempted to show this to some Mormon friends with piles of documented proof and to no avail. The continued church involvement in the voting process of these groomed and handpicked stooges which are obviously under the control of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, thus Vatican control. Why would a true supposed christian church support lackeys of this Jesuit order of Chaos, simple, they are part of the chaos. And correct me if Im wrong please but seems to me the Mormon EMPIRE OWNS COCA-COLA do they not, thus we have the selling of this very poisenous beverage to boot. Ezra Taft Benson was in 1952 the Secretary of Agriculture, also the president of the Mormon church as well. This guy said all the right things, ALMOST, and must have known the truth about his surroundings. Had to of been a high level Mason to have even reached his public status during his time, thus I must mark this man as a traitor to his own Nation being America and his following duped by this occultic crap called the Mormon faith, as well as a servant to the de-facto us corporate states of the us government. One founder of modern MOrmonism Brigham Young was a friend of Jesuit DeSmet. Mormonism has a lot of reach and power today. It's basically a copy of the doctrines of rituals of Freemasons mixed with the customs of America. A man must have and independent mind irrespective if they believe in God or not. Mormonism's basic goal is to create a Unified Order who capital in America to be the New Zion. If that's not similar to a new world order or one world government, then I don't know what is.
