A Romney/SPP possible connection

Isnt the SPP & NAFTA about the NAU & OPEN BORDERS?

MITT ROMNEY
Former Governor of Massachussetts, Republican

Romney has repeatedly stated his support for free trade agreements with Latin America. "The President has negotiated vital free trade agreements with Latin American neighbors like Peru, Colombia and Panama, but Congress are so beholden to their labor bosses, that they have refused to pass them," he said in a policy brief in March last year. "It is time to put the interests of humanity and of the nation first."

"We'd like to see more agreements, not fewer, to improve the economic well-being of our neighborhood," he said, according to a report from the Associated Press in July 2007. "Trade lifts all nations that participate."

Romney has also created a Latin American advisory group with prominent free-trade supporters, including Jorge Arrizurieta (a former CEO of Florida FTAA, which worked to get the FTAA headquarters to Miami); Roger Noriega (former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs and former U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States); Mark Falcoff, a prominent Latin America expert and resident scholar emeritus of the American Enterprise Institute; Jose S. Sorzano, a former U.S. Deputy Representative at the United Nations and senior Latin America policy staffer to President Ronald Reagan and V. Manuel Rocha, a former career diplomat who served in key posts throughout Latin America and now heads up consultancy Globis Group.

"I am proud to be joining Governor Romney's campaign to help him craft the policies needed to advance the United States' trade relations with Latin America," Arrizurieta, chair of the international policy group at the Miami law firm Akerman Senterfitt, said when joining the group in March last year.

Dean may even get the task of pushing for a "headquarters lite." Alberto Cardenas, a partner in Miami-based Tew Cardenas LLP law firm and former chairman of the state Republican Party, suggests that Washington consider a "temporary secretariat" to run the numerous free-trade deals in the Americas and work toward knitting them into an eventual FTAA. "If Congress approves Peru, Colombia and Panama [free trade agreements] and DR-CAFTA takes effect in full, together with NAFTA," Cardenas says, "there's enough critical mass worthy of a headquarters — in Miami." - 32k - Cached
