Companies with strong ties to President Bush are clinching some of the administration's first disaster relief and reconstruction contracts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh, President George W. Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of FEMA , have alreasy been tapped to start recovery work along the battered Gulf Coast. One is Shaw Group Inc. and the other is Halliburton Co., subsidary Kellogg Brown and Root.

The new indictment against the House of Representatives Republican leader contains counts of money laundering and conspiring to launder money. Mr DeLay has temporarily stepped down from his post to answer the charges. He says he is innocent, and accuses prosecutors in Texas of manufacturing charges for political reasons. The House leader is a key fundraiser for President George W Bush and is seen as wielding immense political influence.

Vice President Dick Cheney's personal cash cow is the lucky beneficiary of yet another government contract. What ought to shock and terrify every American is that KBR, a Halliburton subsidiary, was awarded a $385 million contract to build "temporary detention facilities" in case of an "immigration emergency."

The Dubai firm that won Bush administration backing to run six U.S. ports has at least two ties to the White House. One is Treasury Secretary John Snow, whose agency heads the federal panel that signed off on the $6.8 billion sale of an English company to government-owned Dubai Ports World. The other connection is David Sanborn, who runs DP World's European and Latin American operations and was tapped by Bush last month to head the U.S. Maritime Administration.
