New Book Published in Italy: Abortion Drug RU 486 is Unsafe for Women

Rome, Italy (LifeNews.com) -- A new book published in Italy asserts that the abortion drug RU 486 is unsafe for women. The book is a novelty of sorts because a leading abortion supporter and pro-life advocate joined forces to publish it.
Published this week, the book, The Fable of Easy Abortion: Myths and Realities of the RU-486 Pill, dispels the notion that the abortion drug mifepristone, marketed as Mifeprex, is safe for women.

The authors say the abortion drug can cause medical problems such as abdominal pains and cramps, nausea, hemorrhages, headaches and vomiting. It says women can endure physical pain for hours when the mother finally has the miscarriage that expels the body of the dead baby from her womb.
The book notes that the number of abortion deaths is likely higher than currently though, according to a Zenit review of it.

Thus far, a total of 12 women have died in the United States, Canada, France, England and Sweden, but the book alleges many more have died because women's deaths are likely reported from the medical problems the abortion drug caused rather than listing the abortion drug itself.
The book accuses the media of ignoring the thousands of women who have been injured by the abortion drug and not looking into the deaths from it.
According to Zenit, the book is co-written by Eugenia Roccella, who is a decidedly pro-abortion feminist hailing from a non-religious background, and Assuntina Morresi, a pro-life Catholic.
With Morresi's pro-life views and Roccella's involvement in the feminist movement in Italy in the 1970s, Zenit says the book shows a new trend in Italy of pro-life advocates working with feminists to show how abortion hurts women.

The authors say drug-induced abortions are often a long, drawn-out procedure lasting more than three days and only in 3 percent of all cases does the abortion occur within 48 hours of taking the first drug. That greatly increases the odds women with have psychological or emotional problems after using it.
The book says about 56 percent of the women who have abortions with mifepristone actually see the body of the dead baby following the miscarriage the drug produces, which provides more emotional trauma.
