Democrat fixture Chuck Schumer makes idle threats against a multinational "news" corporation.
I never thought I’d end up agreeing with a neocon. But in the case of the “Fairness Doctrine” I do. The neocon in question is Jonah Goldberg, who writes for the National Review. Goldberg takes Chuck Schumer to task for his comments today on the doctrine. Goldberg calls Schumer a “moron” for comparing “conservative” talk radio to pornography. Goldberg:
So political speech and hardcore pornography: the founders saw no difference between these things? Or forget the founders, since Schumer and Co. usually do. Does Chuck Schumer honestly think the two are comparable? That the state has the same interest in regulating porn as it does in regulating political speech?

Hmmm. Funny how neocons are silent when antiwar demonstrators are denied their First Amendment rights, but they get all up in a lather when a political fixture like Schumer threatens to limit their speech. I can’t recall neocon Bush supporters confined to free speech cages during the conventions or at any other time during his long and torturous tenure.

If you think Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O, or any other of the neocon talk radio hosts will be muzzled by the Democrats, think again. Neocon radio is a product of large corporations such as Fox and Clear Channel. A worse case scenario would have the neocons sharing time with a few feeble-minded libs, not striking the neocons from the air altogether. In fact, a few bozo libs will be fodder for the likes of Limbaugh and crew. Recall the mileage and career Limbaugh made out of bashing Clinton. His golden microphone will not be confiscated.

On the other hand, smaller broadcasters may feel the pinch because they don’t have teams of lawyers or pull in the corporate whorehouse on the Potomac. Patriot radio may very well go the way of the Dodo bird, especially if they insist on their constitutional right to free speech and refuse to share — that is pay for — the air time of neocons and libs. Keep in mind that the neocons vehemently oppose what radio talk show hosts such as Alex Jones have to say and often advocate removing them from the air. Recall, as well, Fox News neocons saying 9/11 truth activists should be tasered, beaten, and delivered to concentration camps. Generally speaking, neocons of Mr. Goldberg’s ilk have opposed the free speech right of those they disagree with.
Of course, upon an Obama victory, the Democrats — who are not, under the rubric of the false right-left paradigm, “far left” by any stretch of the imagination — will likely go after all broadcasters who do not tow the line as defined by the corporatists and the international bankers. In the coming months, under an Obama regime, we can expect all sincere opposition to be vilified as racist hate. It is far easier to gain support if you are going after people who are portrayed as racist troglodytes.

Rush and Sean will remain on the air because they represent the fake opposition, an opposition designed to trick “conservatives,” actually neocon followers, into harmless behavior that does not pose a threat to the establishment. On the other side of this contrivance, the foundation liberals will continue to direct the “left” into futile behavior that will not end the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan or prevent Obama from attacking Pakistan, as promised. It’s a dog and pony show designed to make sure no significant change is possible.
