Thoughts from a tourist

Being a tourist in other localities, I look for hotels near airports and public transportation. I love the METRO and the MARTA! I will ride the TIDE and hope that the future brings expansion into the other cities of Hampton Roads. What a great way to unite us in the minds of the tourists. We do expect vacationers to be a viable part of our economy, right? And if locals can benefit by not having to drive, isn't that great? I think it is.

The Norfolk Tide in Va Beach

I cant understand why anyone who has a business at the beach would vote no to the Tide. It would bring more paying consumers to the beach area. Anyone who votes no to the Tide isn't thinking with their head in my opinion. It would also bring more jobs too @ this very hard time with all the locals who are out of work like myself. I also think it would cut down on drinking & driving. Why drive when u would have the Tide plus it is so cheap! You can't go wrong with the Tide!!! I say 2 thumbs up!

There is a value in it; even for you!

It costs you less in taxes to move people on light rail than it does to move people on a bus.
According to data from the National Transit Database in 2009 on average in this country it cost 60 cents per passenger mile to move people on light rail.
Put that passenger on a bus and it cost 90 cents per pax/mile.
http://www.ntdprogram.gov/ntdprogram/pubs/national_profile/2009NationalProfile.pdf
After calculating the farebox recovery for both buses & light rail and subtracting that from the above numbers, that works out to taxpayers paying 43 cents per pax/mile for light rail and 66 cents per pax/mile for a bus.
Do you not see a value in saving your tax dollars?
