Friday News.

There are tons of news going on today. There has been a proposed child care plan sent by Elizabeth Warren. This plan deals with universal childcare. We know because of the economic inequalities that we have, raising a child is very expensive and we need new solutions to make sure that childcare is available and affordable. It expands subsidies to low income families and richer families have to pay for their childcare. It's a great first step and some want a state option that will allow private insurers to compete. There will be another election in a North Carolina district because of overt vote fraud in that area. Trump is silent since Republicans are involved in that vote fraud. This certainly proves that GOP voter suppression is ever real and North Carolina has a Voter ID law. The voter ID law didn't stop that fraud, so that law is useless and must end. Trump is also silent on the Coast Guard lieutenant charged with planning a massacre against Democrats and journalists. As this goes on, Michael Cohen prepares to give his testimony in Congress next week. Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis said that Cohen will give blockbuster testimony about Trump. Cohen will testify two times in private and one time in front of the House in public.

Certainly, today news have been massive. Jussie Smollett has been accused of a federal crime of faking a hate crime. If he is convicted, he faces up to 3 years in prison. He has been recently out of jail after the $100,000 bail. We know of the complexity of the story. We know of the Chicago's police scandals of police brutality and other issues. We know that if Smollett is guilty of making a hoax, then he deserves to be punished for such an act. Regardless, we have a serious problem of hate crimes in America. Hate crimes in America has increased since 2016. The Chicago police has accused him of filing a false police report. Jussie is accused by the police of hiring 2 Nigerian men to fake a beating on him. Like always, we have to use discernment and condemn bigotry while not tolerating hoaxes as well.

He has a lifetime of service in the cause of justice. He has been part of the Civil Rights Movement for a long time. His name is Brother John Lewis and it's his birthday today. He is now 79 years old. He was born in Troy, Alabama. As a young man, he was a key ally of Dr. King and he was a leader of the grassroots organization of SNCC. He was in the Freedom Rides, the March on Washington, the Selma voting rights Movement, Freedom Summer, the Freedom Schools, and in Nashville. Later, he became a Congressman of Georgia. He opposed the Iraq War and continues protests to this very day. John Lewis voted to fund the creation of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. He was awarded the Presidential Freedom Award in 2011 by Barack Obama. In our time, many issues exist. We are in a crossroads of our time. John Lewis definitely would want us to stand up and speak up against police brutality, against xenophobia, against racism, and for justice. That is why we have to learn about our elders, because we have a chance to make more history too. We all have life. Once we have life, we do have the opportunity to make an august contribution to world history. I wish Brother John Lewis more blessings.

Yesterday was the date of one of the saddest days in Black History. It was 54 years after the assassination of Brother Malcolm X which occurred at New York City. Malcolm X was one of the greatest black leaders in history. His strength was that he gave strong, honest appraisals of the evils found in America, he gave black people confidence to stand up for our rights, and he shown courage to confront injustice. He advocated self-defense. When the neo-Nazis threatened Dr. King in Selma back in 1965, Malcolm X promised the Neo-Nazis that if they touched Dr. King then Malcolm X would use his forces to enact maximum physical retaliation against the neo-Nazis. The neo-Nazis never touched Dr. King. Malcolm X also wanted black people with guns to defend our communities. Malcolm X wasn't ADOS. He believed in pan-African unity.

He wanted to unify black people in America, Africa, the Caribbean, South America, Britain, France, etc. in order to confront the Western power structure. Therefore, black people can be truly free via that strident unity. Malcolm X evolved to be more progressive in his political views. He condemned capitalism by name in 1965, he opposed the Vietnam War, he spoke at socialist meetings, he endorsed African independence, and he believed in women equality. Many history books don't mention these facts, but Malcolm X was an international world hero. Malcolm X always loved discussions and debates on important subjects. He traveled into England to stand up against racism and he traveled into Africa to gather support, so America would be held accountable (via the United Nations) for human rights violations against black Americans. Malcolm X was a living example of black manhood in his service to our people, so we are always appreciative of his contributions. His wife Betty Shabbaz was another warrior. Their children continue in the struggle for black liberation to this very day.
Rest in Power Brother Malcolm X.
