Knigge and the Jesuits

From http://z10.invisionfree.com/The_Unhived_Mind_II/index.php?showtopic=30045

While skipping through a dissertation on Adam Weishaupt and the Illuminati I found another remarkable quote by Baron Knigge, complaining about the Jesuit practices used by Weishaupt (brief summary and free translation below)

- the supervision by "unknown superiors" through all the degrees is taken from the model of the Jesuits, the Rosicrucians and the Strict Observance

- following the model of the Jesuits there should be developed strategies to take influence on society, e.g. through educational institutes, public offices

- Knigge supported Weishaupt's demand of unity and subordination, but warned that the application of Jesuit practices implies some dangers; "In consequence despotism is no good, we ourselves are preaching against it, but want to force people into shape with Jesuit authority? – heaven forbid!"

- Weishaupt tended to interpret the practice of reporting as confession in view of the practice in the Jesuit order

- the Jesuit order was the model for the Illuminati system of disciplining, the practice of observation and the novitiate
