Washington D.C. to Host Masonic World Leaders Conference

(Washington, DC) - The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the District of Columbia (GLDC) will host the largest gathering of international Masonic leaders ever in Washington, D.C. during the Masonic World Conference May 7, 2008 through May 10, 2008.

Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and largest single fraternal society, the largest portion of membership residing in the United States. With a rich historical involvement with the founding of America and many in U.S. leadership being members, the Masonic World Conference will be the largest international public gathering of Freemasons in Washington D.C. since the laying of the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol building on September 18, 1793.

The culmination of this event will be a public wreath laying ceremony on the morning of May 10th at the National World War II Memorial. Representatives from the 50 U.S. Masonic Grand Lodges, along with international Masonic leadership will honor the 3 million Freemasons killed during World War II.

Famous Freemasons include George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Freemasonry in D.C. has been a focus of major blockbuster hits such as National Treasure, National Treasure 2 and will be featured prominently in Dan Brown’s upcoming novel.
