Mother Rejects Doctor’s Abortion Advice, Healthy Baby Born

A mother who rejected a doctor’s advice to have an abortion when her water broke at 16 weeks into the pregnancy and eventually gave birth to a healthy baby wants “everyone to know” her story.
The Christian Institute is profiling the story of 20-year-old Laura Hill, who ignored advice from a physician and ultimately gave birth to her son Charlie.
“I was told I was likely to go into labor within two weeks and that the baby only had a one per cent chance of survival and if he did survive there would be a chance of brain damage or lung deformities,” she said. “I said one per cent is still a chance he could live and I didn’t want to give up on my baby.”
Despite the concern after her water breaking the membranes surrounding Charlie repaired themselves and amniotic fluid surrounded the baby, the web site noted. On march 1, Charlie was born just one week premature at a healthy 7 pounds and 3 ounces.
“He cried but it was a weak cry so I started panicking,” Hill told the web site. “But then the midwife told me ‘He’s perfectly normal.’”
“I just want everyone to know Charlie’s story, Hill, who has a two-year-old girl named Tillie, said. “I am totally amazed by him and how he fought.”
Richard Hill, Charlie’s father, told the web site, “When Charlie was born it was the happiest day of my life along with when Tillie was born. When I first saw his head and heard his first cry there was so much going through my mind. I thought, ‘We have got our little boy, he’s safe here with us.’ I was so happy.”
Meanwhile, obstetrician Alastair McKelvey also commented, saying, “A normal outcome in these circumstances is rare. But this is a wonderful story. I admire the faith and optimism which Laura and her partner showed through this difficult time.”
Courageous accounts of mothers and parents opting against an abortion are not uncommon, and LifeNews blogger Maura Butler posted a story about one woman’s struggle with encouragement to have an abortion and how she refused.
LifeNews also highlighted the story of parents who refused abortions or conjoined twins and how they, and the twins, are glad to be alive.
“The best thing about having a brother with whom I’m conjoined is that I always have a best friend to talk to,” Tyler says.
“Tyler is my best friend,” echoes Stefan. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
